There are two main types of wage classications in the United States: hourly and piece work. Over the road truckers are generally paid as piece workers, paid by the piece. Miminum wage laws for the most part do not apply to piece workers.

It does take a different mind set to be a content piece worker, its not for everyone.

Hogan is zip code to zip code pay, but drivers know that going in. Basically a run is legally considered a piece. Hogan pays an amount for each piece when it is completed. The rate of pay for each piece is based on zip to zip distance miles, not how many miles are driven.

Dang so Hogan lets their drivers drive for free, that's pretty lame. That's what Western Express does, well they also round down and subtract, but it's not cool. That means 69 cents a mile is actually closer to 62

I wish I could just start a business and convince people to work for 90% of their pay, that would be great.

Well the thing is, you don't actually get paid money. You get Family Bucks, redeemable only at the Family convenience store, which is open from 10 am to 2 pm on Tuesday and Thursday. But you get free saltines and coffee.

Dude one time I ate a bad roller dog or something and I was stuck at a shipper with no bathroom and it hit me like a brick and shot #### out of my ### right in that truck and the plastic bag only caught like half of it.

No, they dont drive for free, it is piece work. They are paid for each run based on the distance zip to zip and not miles driven. You are thinking like an hourly worker.

In all seriousness, why would you personally consider taking a job that doesn't pay by the hour? I dont think piece work is for you.

I didn't know Hogan only paid the miles they feel like paying. I guess they can't afford GPS?

I just know that pods job would be cake. Easiest job I'd have trucking by far

Yeah hourly sounds better for me you're right

It's Anerica, we have a choice. I like piece work.
I made $360,000 in four years driving for Hogan, no-touch freight and was home every weekend. I started driving with Hogan as well, fresh out of CDL school. Personally Im not concerned with how much I made an hour doing it, just the annual rate.

That’s not bad money good for you. But how often did you get time off and how often did you work 60-70 hours.

I’m not trying to be a dick but zip code miles is definitely a way for the company to pay less money to the driver, so every 10 miles 1 of them is a donation to the company. It is what it is. They make the pay confusing on purpose. And it’s definitely not just hogan. But it is working for free.
