Change what you can ...if and when it's possible...if can't be changed...accept and make the best of it...even 400 mile loads per day..add up to 2800 miles a week...which easily gets the quarterly bonus...with a reasonable home time

It is hard to believe that so many readers of SSB posts are so critical of him. It is his site and you must enjoy reading about his wild adventures or you wouldn't be here and try to constantly tell him what to do or advise him to be different.

If he bothers you that much maybe you should not read his posts and complain on everything he says. He is an entertaining person even if not perfect so enjoy him or leave his posts. None of us are without our own faults.

The boring runs comments were made when we were discussing @rollin coal's experiences working out of a Walmart DC. As far as the other stuff - not making enough money, average miles per day, etc. are the same...if I am not averaging enough miles per day, then I am not making enough money. I would like to see more than one 3000+ mile week every 6 weeks, especially this time of year pulling a reefer, and especially spending this much time away from home. And I'm not like you, I won't go running to the upper management (allegedly) being an informant every chance I get. I go to the source of the problem and confront them directly. Then, upper management can see that I am attempting to resolve the issue thru proper channels if that doesn't resolve the issue, then they can get involved.

Instead of #####ing about people on the thread they created, why don't you start your own. You can call it "How I think ya'll are ####ing up". I'm sure it will be a useful addition to the forum.

Amen brother. I have some positive observations and some humorous posts as well (although not as many as I used to), but all these haters seem to only post when I am venting and post the occasional rant. Some of these members are the kind of people that would complain about a traffic jam caused by a serious wreck, then stop to get a good look at the carnage once they get to the scene of the crash.

I don't think everybody is hating on you. I enjoy reading your threads, it makes me happy I am no longer OTR. I don't miss the lifestyle nor would I want to do it with elogs. I used to be just like you, the more I would hate the harder I would run. I hope that you don't take anything that I post on here the wrong way. I neve thought that I could do a boring run like I do now. I learned to adapt, trucking isn't like it was when I got my Cdl the second time in 1997. I could not do what you do and I have a lot of respect for those that can. I used to stay out months at a time, I thought is was the only way to make good money. I was wrong, I love my home time and 5 day work week. Look outside the box, I would check out Estes or Old Dominion. Don't say you are too old to do something different, I started pulling doubles at age 50. Look at @Johnboy. Change is good, you will be okay, take a deep breath and maybe take some advice from others. Just relax and see what loads are after the crappy ones they offer. Good luck to you my friend.

I still enjoy reading everything Snack says, good, bad, or indifferent. That's why I'm still here. He tells it like it is.

And I will follow, if allowed, to wherever his next adventure is.

@supersnackbar I think some of what the critics might be getting at is that you’re overqualified for the job.

Like one of the things @brian991219 mentioned in his recent summation, the modus operandi of the company you’re currently working for is built around stupid people, so a decent hand that actually knows how to take care of business and doesn’t need a week to run a 400 mile load is going to get stir crazy, not to mention the hit his paycheck will take because of the office staff having the apparent standard procedure to plan around the lowest common denominator.

Alternate advice is one thing, but there are a number of members who would only post a negative reply when I would react or rant to a negative (or multiple negative) issues that the happen with the company I was currently working for. Most make seem like they're waiting for the opportunity to a "there he goes again" reply.

I appreciate the guidance about places like Estes or OD, but the main reason I stay out like I do isn't just to try to make a bigger monthly pay, it's because I would have a hard time with the limited time off a home daily or home weekly position would have. The way it is with staying out 6-10 weeks is then I am eligible for enough time off to accomplish larger tasks at home. I mean, my last hometime I did a full brake job on both of our vehicles, (including a day wait for a new caliper and rotor), and I replaced the oil cooler/filter housing on my wife's RAM (which requires you to disassemble the entire top of the motor right down to the valley between the heads), along with puting a new water pump on it as well. That much couldn't have been accomplished on a couple days off on the weekend. So there is advantages to the extended time out.

Preplanned on a load. Pickup in Albany, GA on Monday, deliver to Mechanicsburg on Wednesday. And since my truck is almost due for a B service, I will go ahead and have that done as well. I figured, since my hometime has hurt my week's miles, may as get a service done, and hopefully get out and get a head start on next week.(See haters, no bitterness, only being positive and hopeful).

Unfortunately it was also mentioned in the discussion from this post, that the current trend with shorter runs isn't gonna change, which is bad news for old school old farts like me. And the even older school drivers probably had similar discussions when deregulation changed things, and when the chauffeur license changes and the CDL was introduced. There are times I wish I could hop in a time machine and go back a couple-three decades.
