That's one of those grey areas for sure. DOT says you can;t sleep in a daycab, you can;t go over your hours, but, you have no choice to do one of the 2. What do you do? Me? I go to the nearest place possible and be done with it. Any recourse what choice did you have? ###### if you do ###### if you don't so do what you need to do.

Last month I arrived 1/2 hr early for a live unload that was supposed to take 2 hrs...only had 3.5 left on my 14. Still hadn't been called into the dock with 1.5 left and so I gave the guard options: 1. Unload me now so I can find a safe and legal before my 14 are done. 2. Let me drop trlr in dock and I'll come back in morn. 3. Let me stay in the dock for 10hrs after backing in. 4. Give me back my B/L and I'll reschedule. I ended up rescheduling which was a pain in the ### for me, them, and the company I drive for, but I stayed legal. I'd be interested in hearing how other drivers stay legal when running into bad situations.

That's way too diligent for my book... I mean you gotta know when to say when man, did you pat yourself on the back for that?

I'm sorry, no disrespect but if I was that *tight* on my logbook I'd hardly make any money!

Work the system- don't let it work you :biggrin_25515:

Didn't pat myself on the back. In fact, I was pretty pissed I was given a live load late in my day. Also mad at the consignee for not honoring their appt time. If I did what most drivers do, I would have entered the facility after my 14, then, many hours later after being unloaded I would have left and found a place to take my DOT brk, all illegal--increasing my chances of an accident under fatigue. I'm quite aware that most drivers ignore DOT rules when they aren't convenient.

If you run close to your 14, or 10, to get back to any home point/terminal point to park your CMV for your 34 or longer "hometime" and then you step into your personal vehicle are you then allowed to drive as long as you want to to get to where you are going?

    'Sup with that if so?:biggrin_25524:

HOS for driving apply to when you are driving the CMV under dispatch and for servicing/repairing the CMV....

You can be on your 10 off or on a 34 reset and drive it for personal use....

Log it on line 1 and flag it as "Off duty/Driving"....

    Example:

You park at a motel for a 34 reset and you have to go to Wallyworld to stock up for the following week.....

Make sure you drive the tractor only......you cannot dead-head and log "Off duty/Driving"...

As far as your POV......The HOS can't apply....

I have a question about the 14 rule of on duty between 2 jobs. I work in a warehouse from 6am to 5pm no driving involved then go to 2nd job driving a box truck from 530 pm to 10pm. I am told even tho i don't drive at my 1st job I am required to log what time i started there if i am driving a cmv at my 2nd job and to be within 14 hours of both jobs.

+1. Your first job will need to be logged on line 4. If you don't do it, and get caught, you will be screwed and looking for 3 jobs to cover the fines. Unless you get caught via an accident in which case you'll be borrowing money for counsel.
