Hey Guys, first off forgive my ignorance, if any in this post. Short backstory... I ended up coming into a good chunk of money ... around $700k. I actually drove when I was in my early 20's....brine from Ontario to Michigan. Here is what I want to do... I want to buy my own truck or 2 or 3 and hire someone to drive them.. What are the main issues stopping me from being profitable? I come across job postings for owner/operators that can earn up to 200k why cant I hire someone to do it for say 120 k and I keep 80k?
Looking to start my own Carrier company

Main issue is, there is NO DRIVER SHORTAGE. There is a shortage of good paying loads. The 1st problem you will face is insurance. It will eat you alive on a new authority. The second problem is finding good drivers. Yo will have to poach good, experienced drivers from another carrier, and in order to be attractive, you will need to have something to offer. If you have a little experience, wanna go back on the road yourself, fine, buy yourself a nice rig, work yourself up some nice customers, and run it. Forget the driver’s for now.LoneRanger, tscottme, Oxbow and 4 others Thank this.

Worst decision you could make if you have money, I have two truck and have owned trucks for almost 10 years..Invest your money in something and forget about trucking..You will loose that 700k.

Really??
Everything is stopping you.
If you haven't been driving in the last 3 years, you have a lot to learn.
What do YOU think that $700k is going to do? -
Yah shoot insurance always gets you in everything. I did enjoy my time on the road so maybe that would be the best play. I appreciate your answer

I haven't been driving for 10 years as I'm in my 30's now. I don't know I've always wanted to run my own business however this seems like a challenging business to get into but aren't they all.

Do you have a business plan?
If no, are you working on one.
If no, then you are already out of business.
The best thing you could do is take the money and make some good investments.
Most brokerages offer assistance with finding the best balance of portfolio for your needs. Usually these services are free or have a very small cost. At 700k, you should be a very preferred client and get quite a bit of services as part of your account.
