I probably pulled the trigger a bit early with my driving career. I went out and my family just could'nt support me being gone. I will say that going with May was a great experience. I enjoyed and respected their way of doing things. Some will complain about how they run you and you have no control of your truck, and that 62MPH is too slow and so on. All I can say is at 62 MPH i really did'nt worry about tickets, yeah it seems very slow at times but as a new driver thats one less thing to worry about. As for the way they ran us I think with fuel prices and all the cost associated with running a business this will become more of the norm in the future with alot more companies.

My trainer was a great guy, never team drove, always in the jump seat, I really learned alot. Our logs were always up to date, my trainer got his logs looked into at a scale, probably to see if he logged 'on duty' in the jump seat, officer said every thing looked great, well what he really said was "congrats you did it right!" lol he was not a happy guy.

The manager at my yard was a real straight shooter, very accessable, I felt that I could talk to him any time. Great equiptment, I really can't say enough about them. I realize that many will say I was'nt there long enough, well maybe, but as a newb with very little choices, and reading all the bad posts on here for a year I could'nt of chose a better company to start with, IMO.

Not every thing was perfect, we had some down time, waited a bit for a trainer, sleeping with a stranger, etc.. But I really wish I could of stayed. It's very difficult for me to give this up right now, I feel I was lucky to have found a great first company, trainer and really enjoy the job. I really wish they had a need for a shagger or something, I'd be there in a minute.

I will continue to look for a local gig or maybe a company with less time OTR, but I realize that it's probably not going to happen and I will go back to my old line of work...... but I will be back after the kid's are gone, [4 yrs] My wife can stay or go, I'm going!!! Sorry it didn't work in the long run. It takes a VERY strong woman to do it all on their own especially after you've been home every night for most of the marriage. My wife has been a tropper and we have a small child. I respect her more that I can ever tell her, plus she works full time too and handles everything.

Maybe you will find a local gig. Where do you live? I can't say I'm as thrilled with May and don't like the micromanaging but to each their own.

Yeah i truly wish it would have. As a newb I really don't have any other company to compare May with, it seems like any other job, management makes all the rules and we must comply. I can see how some of you vets could have some trouble with all the changing going on.
I commend you and your wife for making it work. :biggrin_25514:If both of you are not on the same page it will not work. I live out in Boise, the job market is tough here, but Ill keep trying. I might not be driving now but I know I will in time, Be safe, Liteguy

Payette is a great bunch of people. They know that Brooks and there micromanagement cost them good drivers. In order to make it out here you ether have to be single or have a very supporting wife. Mine is great, She knows that trucking is in my blood and is part of who I am. She can't wait for the kids to be grown so she can come with me full time.

Bad thing is that sense you did not finish training and you have no experience you are in the class as any other wannabe who is just going to school. In fact if you wait very long you will have to go back to school and start from there again. I wish you luck in the future.

Sorry you had to quit. So it sounds like May was a good company for you. I am very torn, I have May and another company in mind and just need to make up my mind I hope to hear back from the recruiter this week about starting orientation next week. Best of luck to you buddy.

i hate to tell you what you probably have been told, but here it goes. you will not find a local job with no OTR. that is just a plain and simple fact.

as soon as i was within a week of finishing school, i was on the hunt OTR and local. had several offers for OTR, and not one for local. no experience.

had offers with Werner, Crete (Shaffer), Star Transport (Illinois not TN) and a couple of more.

your just going to be S.O.L. unless you find a mom and pop place that will let you drive. its not the business owners, it is the insurance companies saying no. they refuse to write policies on newb drivers.

    good luck though.

I think hubby may go with May depending on the health insurance. My husband is wanting to drive even if it's regional for a couple of years to get the experience under his belt and then look at getting something locally where he is home more often.
