I have driven a short time for carlile and in Alaska for 5 years. they have a terminal in anchorage they don't pay that great compared to the union companies in the same area,(alot of union in alaska just ask Sarah Palin how she feels about unions you might be suprised ) startin out you would start as a hostler. a hostler drives around town and loads freight for the line haul trucks headed north to fairbanks east to valdez or out of state. in Alaska they pull doubles the overall length limit is 120 ft long and they can gross up to 159500, thats line haul.a regular run north would be to take a set of doubles to fairbanks pick up emptys or decked flats and go back to anchorage.fairbanks is where the haul road starts past that point no doubles are allowed. Its alot easier to get on at carlile than it is to get up in the pitch dark and drive for your survival on snow and ice everyday for six months out of the year so if you think you have what it takes you can get a job, starter job pretty easy.Summer is by far the best time to go don't show up in December unless you have lots of money,I ended up driving union before I moved, the thing about Alaska is when you get there no one will wanna hire you after you work a few years everyone will if your any good.

I drove longhaul a little after I moved back to Oregon and I met quite a few folks that said they drove in Alaska and I could tell they were full of it, I met more people in Alaska that used to be truck drivers than I ever have.

Hey, "Guitar Man!!!" Didja lift that handle from the old Bread (?) tune? Whoa, I'm gettin' old, I can't even remember who sung that classic tune... Alzheimer's is settin' in, and it's all downhill from here!!!

D.O.T. Bear: "Let me see your logbook..."

Railsplitter: "Which one... the second or the third??????????????" :biggrin_2559: :biggrin_25523: :biggrin_2559:

You know, of course, that I've NEVER falsified a logbook in my time, although I do have a "MAGIC PEN" in my possession in case I'm EVER forced to do so by some evil and unscrupulous dispatcher... that's if I don't drop-kick the scrub first as if I'm starrin' in the NFL. :biggrin_2559:

I know what you mean, A couple of question will tell you if they have or are b/sing. I drove for both Carlile and Sourdough out of Fairbanks. I liked Sourdough better.
