    Nah, ...... I didn't have to.
    Just wanted to.

I just hope SOMEone will have more to say on this subject to explain in more detail what sounds confusing in general statements. I'm sure there are others out there scratchin' their heads , wonderin'
    Whud they say?

Now, that thar is all I have to say, and having said it, I'll say .......
it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. :sunny::smt004:toothy4:

I just clip cards to my frame so I get the bicycle sound, like cards in the spokes..... But don't know if it has an effect on the mileage.

I only use real Bicycle Poker Cards.

Jake Brakes (engine brakes) work by releasing the energy stored by compressed air in the cylinder as it acts as a spring pushing the cylinder down on the crank. Instead of this energy (compressed air) pushing on the crank, it is released to the atmosphere and into the bedrooms of nosey old ladies trying to sleep. The noise you hear is compressed air popping.

When you release the gas pedal, the jake brake relay energizes and at the same time fuel is cut off to the corresponding cylinders (lo/hi) and the exhaust valves remain open. Some systems even have a second set of exhaust valves.
They waste no fuel as no fuel is injected.

Now exhaust brakes that work by a butterfly valve downstream from the turbo restricting exhaust wastes fuel.

Same here, PJ --- waayyy back in the day. Loved that sound, even as a kid growin' up.
Which, now that I'm an older kid, causes me to wonder --- were we somehow influenced to become Big truck truck driver
s :Driver:by the sound of those cards flappin' in the spokes? :Bike:

One way or the other, I'm certain th
ey must have affected the mileage adversely. Especially when I doubled-up the cards for a deeper reverberation, creating twice the resistance of a single card per clothespin configuration. With eight to twelve clothespinned cards just on the front wheel and about the same number on the drive wheel, my feet probably had to pound out more torque.
Maybe that's why my leg muscles don't fatigue now-a-daze when I'm using the clutch in a Big truck when I'm drivin' in heavy, stop & go city traffic.
    Ya reckon. :smt037

Thanx for bustin' that myth, Condo :salute:.:thumbright:

A jake brake slows you down, right?
On level ground, what got you up to that speed that youre slowing down from exactly?

    .....FUEL...

    Therefore that fuel was wasted.

Duley noted but dont act like the Jakes are using fuel to operate which is pretty much what the arguement was about in the first place.....

Thats what I was trying to get at, physically using the jake brakes does not waste fuel.

Jakes use fuel . Throw your Jakes on and you Will see the turbo boost go from zero to almost 20 lbs on my Cat . Whenever Jakes are used you do use fuel . Boost = fuel .

Believe it or not . Many opinions , 1 correct answer . Good Day !

Please tell me yer not being serious.

If so, the reason for that needle on the boost gauge goin up is because of all that compressed air in the cylinders bein forced outta that special exhaust valve that goes through the exhaust side of the turbo making it appear that boost is being created. Your wheels turning is supplying the energy.
