I'm on my way to California with a 2 stop load. First drop in El Monte, second drop in Fresno. Loaded in Mountaintop this afternoon. Oh, my truck had some other issues so I'm in a different truck for this round. I'll update as I go along. Be safe and God bless!

Do they pay practical miles or short?Do they hire out of S.C.? Thank you so much for your help! Be safe out there.

Princess, their website is www.calexlogistics.com and I'm not sure about hiring out of s.c. you'd have to talk with recruiting about that.

I've been a longtime lurker of this board, and after having followed this thread since its inception, I've been enthusiastically following along. I'm an ex-OTR driver that hauled mainly freight to the west coast and produce back to the east coast for 24 years without ever having had a single accident to report. Unfortunately, a back injury sustained in a fall while checking reefer oil in Wyoming, and diabetes and insulin ended my career in 2002 even though I'm a controled diabetic and am quite capable of still performing the duties required to run the "coast". The Feds and insurance companies see it another way, so I am forced to set it out on the sidelines and cruise the boards to get my fix.

I had a short stint with Apple House, which didn't work out, and worked for TRL back in the glory days before they started getting to big for their breeches. I loved that job, and stayed with them right up until I get shafted out of a $500 bonus for running the road on Christmas Day. Let me tell you, there's no bigger hollow feeling than waking up in a Wyoming truckstop on Christmas morning, and staggering in to an empty cafe and having your morning coffee with just you and the waitress warming the seats. And so, when Mark Hrobuchak started MPH Trucking. I went on with them and enjoyed a steady dedicated run from Elmira, New York to Woodland California and back with produce. I loved that company as well, and stayed with them right through Marks death and the eventual formation of Knitney Lines.

There has never been anything that I enjoyed more than cruising along an interstate listening to the steel belts thumping their way westbound somewhere along I-80. Or I-40. Or I-5. There are alot of sacrifices that a person needs to make to enjoy the lifestyle, and sometimes it seems like it's just not worth it. But then you hit a clear night running through the Arizona desert with a hot load headed for the Bronx, you pull over at 1am to stretch your legs in hopes of knocking out another hundred and a half before you lay your head on the pillow, and you look up, and take in that breathtaking lightshow in the dark clear sky, and you know right then and there that the sacrifices have paid off.

Calex sounds like great company to work for and some of these posts in this thread remind me of the good old days when a man was more then a name or number to management. I can remeber the days when a boss would walk up to a driver that has just pulled into the terminal after a tough 4th morning delivery off the west coast, and hand the driver a $100 bill for getting the job done. And if I thought for one minute that my health problems weren't insurmountable, I'd fight a man with my hands tied behind my back just to be first in line to fill out an application because Calex sounds like just the kind of company that I wouldn't mind busting my butt for.

I want to thank you folks for taking me on this journey. It's been a genuine pleasure to read some of these posts and reflect on my life as a driver. The good, the bad and the ugly can rear up in your face at any time, and that's what makes us folks special. We deal with and overcome things that ordinary working folks can't fathom. And that makes us a breed all of our own.

Folks....thanks for the lift....stay safe out there.... have a smooth ride.... and enjoy it while you can. It can be taken away from you in the blink of an eye. Threes and Eights.

I enjoyed reading your post! You should put some of your stories in the story section, one can never read too many good stories.

Thanks for taking the time to read about our little world. They pay practical miles, if you go out of route and add miles to the trip you tell dispatch and get it ok'd to be paid for the extra miles. Yes they hire out of SC, we have a big account in Greeneville that requires alot of loads per week. We just hired a driver from there this past week. I met him Friday before I left.Thank's for the well wishes.
