ride along?

Ya , best plan is to check with any drivers you know. My company for insurance pruposes requires you to sign a release, so if I accidently ran you over you couldn't sue them. Plus DOT can be a stickler to fair warn ya.

I have a request: Does anyone have a sample form to allow a passenger permission to ride?

I have always loved trucks, trucking and everything about it. I used to go with my boyfriend on every trip that fell on my non-working days and LOVED every moment of it. After doing this for a number of years, I finally decided that I should probably look at getting my licence as apparently I love the industry! Best thing I ever did!

Either your insurance carrier or company should have one.

 

A ride-along is a great idea (imo), but not posting it on a web-site. I'm not saying that people on here aren't good people, but you don't know who any of us really are. Good luck in your endeavor.

 

I lease to a very small company, and they do not have a form. As for my insurance company, I don't want my passenger(s) to waive their rights to insurance coverage while with me.

Perhaps someone could give me the DOT regulation number which states that written permission must accompany passengers. If I had the regulation number, I could formulate my own letter.

I found the regulation. Thanks for the help anyway. I posted the regulation in this message for others information:

Subpart G — Prohibited Practices §392.60 Unauthorized persons not to be transported.
(a) Unless specifically authorized in writing to do so by the motor carrier under whose authority the commercial motor vehicle is being operated, no driver shall transport any person or permit any person to be transported on any commercial motor vehicle other than a bus. When such authorization is issued, it shall state the name of the person to be transported, the points where the transportation is to begin and end, and the date upon which such authority expires. No written authorization, however, shall be necessary for the transportation of:
(1) Employees or other persons assigned to a commercial motor vehicle by a motor carrier;
(2) Any person transported when aid is being rendered in case of an accident or other emergency;
(3) An attendant delegated to care for livestock.
(b) This section shall not apply to the operation of commercial motor vehicles controlled and operated by any farmer and used in the transportation of agricultural commodities or products thereof from his/her farm or in the transportation of supplies to his/her farm.
