DJtrucker:: go look on page 17 post 168. It's about the best list you'll find. Make you own adjustments but just chant this mantra...if it doesn't fit I don't need it! That extra $50 for another bag on the bus or plane that you might have to shoulder can be a PITA!

For those that are going to rely on a GPS, get real life scenarios.

    1. GPS can die at any time
    2. You can spill a liquid on the gps or laptop rendering it useless
    3. Satellite signals can be blocked by tall buildings, bridges, weather etc.

Technology is good to a point. Get used to using maps.

I have a GPS. it is a very nice tool...in addition to a map and a compass. I've met drivers who only used gps....total idiots in general. I mean, come on. It's a tool, it doesnt replace a brain. Infact, you can go to new york city in a *car* and have GPS give you routes you cant fit in. For example....it's common for skyscrapers to be built in the middle of roads in NYC, literally. Sometimes a GPS will tell you to turn left...straight into a building. Map updates take time.g

I'm not going back and reading the prior posts to see if any one covered this, if so sorry. About packing clothes , I learned this a long time ago. I take 1 pair of pants folded in quarter's (like they're on a hanger) put shirt socks and shorts and then roll them tightly and put in a Wally world bag .
Takes very little room and keeps them somewhat wrinkle free, very quick too grab one and toss in you shower bag. Use the plastic bag to toss dirty clothes in

I hang my jeans on a hanger, the ones shops get their clothes on with the cloth on the bottom so the pants don't all slide to one end. I hang my shirt on the hangar and my underwear and socks and extra towel and wash rag and sweats are in a milk crate under the bunk and my nylon shower bag with my ditty bag is on top.

Folding clothes is nice but I like my shirts to be wrinkle free so hanging is better for me. All I have to do is take the clothes off the hangar and fold them and put in the shower bag pull out socks and underwear and ditty bag and put them and my flip flops in the bag and go! Takes almost 1whole minute and I'll have wrinkle free clothing to wear. Folding them for long periods of time just makes the wrinkles hard to get out.

I think that if you dont know how to read a map you should not be driving a truck in the first place , but i think every one should also own a gps they invent these new technologies for reasons it for the most part makes life easier. on that note if you type a route in on the gps before trucking on its allways a good idea to check your route before hand then use the gps once route checks out ok. but i cant tell you how many times a map screws me up in the city as to my GPS which allways gets me were i need to go specially in boston MA , and NYC areas with lots of no truck roads and low clearance underpasses that change about five times a year do to construction just my opinion

I love how many people cant read a truck atlas.

I was at a dollar general DC off of US58 very near the part of US58 that is a restricted route (South Boston, VA)..... and talking to a driver about it...he says, "Look, its still pink! It still looks fine! Thats why you have to look at the restrictions section!" ....pink highways with no highlighting are roads you do not want to be on unless you are delivering to that area. Anything missing the orange highlight is not a "designated route" and should not be traveled unless delivering to that area....simple! But noo, this guy didnt get it...and to think he was on a dollar general account...gawd.... (lots of deliveries to BFE)

And then i keep having people tell me that every low bridge in the country, period, is in the low bridges sections....BULL! Especially since it doesnt list a single low bridge in canada...and i know of atleast 30 in montreal!

Everyone should know how to read a map even in a 4 wheeler.
But most people drive around with blinders on.
