Well I made it trough the process of getting my CDL permit today. Schooling here is ok not what I thought it would be but they do cram a lot at you when you first get here.. Gotta come up with a CB handle now.. Hmmmm any ideas??? Get to use the simulators on Thursday will let everyone know how they are.. Just wanted to give a quick update on what was going on...

You probably didn't read my training thread... As you have learned up to this point is that you are pretty much on your own to study and pass the permit test.

They throw the manual at you and tell you to study on your own or in groups... They also offer some additional training by telling you that when you get sick of studying you should study some more.

The whole permit process is a Prime test in itself... Testing your level of commitment and the ability to process information on you own.

Traditional learning environment with instructors, pad time etc begins for, and is only for those individuals who stick around (pass the permit test)....

    the others get sent home

Come on getting your permit, You should know this part before you get to there. It would be considered part of your research to new employment.

alright i have a couple of questions, one i got my cdl from crst and i broke my contract after 3 months due to lack of miles and not making money, that was in july of last year, since then ive worked for werner and a local company that drives all 48. My questions are 1) will prime hire me, cause i know a lot of companies wont touch you if you are "owned" by crst lol. And 2) I am in the air national guard and the only time home I need is for my drills, if I become a L/O would I be able to make it home for my 1 weekend a month?

The only thing I can tell you is call a recruiter they can tell if they will take you on.. I've only been here a week and talked to alot of drivers they really like Prime. As far as I can say I like the way they do things here. It shows them if you are really interested in learning. They have tout me a lot in this short week and I still have a way to go.. I gave up everything to be a driver again and have no need for home time. (no family) I'm would like to find a trainer that is about the same as me I want to go long miles and long days.

If you are a L/O, you can get home whenever you want... provided you give your FM enough notice to get you routed there... I always like to tell my FM about a week in advance when I want to get home, although I'm sure he could get me home really quick in a pinch.

Call the Prime recruiting line to ask your questions... they will be more than helpful.

I can tell you from first hand experience, if you call and ask questions you will get a straight answer. And from all the questions I have asked they have been great so far. I am very happy here, only been on the road with my trainer for 2 weeks but he is awesome and we are getting good miles and get along great.:biggrin_25514:
