Pilot used to be my favorite choice for a layover stop. Until I learned they now charge $20 for a team shower. Yes the coffee is the best, however they are fast becoming TRUCKER UNFRIENDLY as they cater more and more to the 4 wheeler traffic and RV's. The quality of service has gone downhill at PILOT, as well as the cleanliness of the "restrooms". So, I am BOYCOTTING PILOT. Flying J now accepts COMDATA. I only hope the merger with PILOT does not ruin them. :biggrin_25510:

I say go for it...Pilot is now too big for its own good.

But it won't have much effect, too many companies have to fuel there.

stopped using Pilots a few years ago...and NO their coffee isnt all that good either...

the only reason I have pulled in to a pilot is if there is absolutley no other cat scale around.
    then its weigh and go.

$20 is a steal to have your teammate shower with you, it's nice to have someone soap up your back and other areas you can't reach...

Good luck, it will never work! Plus, you'll have to deal with the "optimistic nay-sayers" here explaining why the merger was the best thing in trucking since per-diem and 13 cent per mile wages. Not to sound like a submissive driver with a defeatist attitude, but since that company has more money than all of the "TTR" members combined, boycotting them will be the equivalent of beating a dead horse. Notice how I always say "Welcome to the next generation of trucking". We will have to get used to it until things either improve or implode.

You got it figured out about this Pilot merger with Flying J. It's more than losing the driver lounges and decent resturants. It should have never been allowed to happen. For OTR trucking purposes close to 85% of the fuel market is cornered by two companies now TA and Pilot. Both those companies give $0.10 to 0.22 off the pump price to larger companies, it's a flat out monopoly sponsored by the US Governemnt. That cash discout price is the true cost of the fule but they even charge more for charge to smaller companies for using credit! Consider the expense bottom feeder Inc doesn't have per truck that a smaller company or Independnet has: Self insured so no insurance monthly premuim, bulk purchase power on all parts, and now the huge fuel discounts because their prefered company PILOT and second choice TA have been allowed to create monopolies.

Right now even though they are a Pilot want to be, I only use Loves to purchase fuel at the chains and every Independent truck stop I am allowed to buy from I make a point to stop there and buy. Am I the only one to notice how dirty all truck stops formerly Flying J and Petro have gotten? They have now assumed the standards of Pilot and TA.

When i first started driving (my profile says four but it hasn't updated this year and I have a few more than that 2000-2006 then 2009 to now) you had Pilot, TA, Petro, Loves, Sapp Brothers (now almost all owed by one of the major chains), Bozzleman, Quicktrips, and about a 1 in 10 Independents like Whites In VA....not that way now and the bigger those 2 fuel chains get the bigger the mega carriers will be driving all the smaller better paying companies out because the cost of fuel will get cheaper for the bigs.

    Question for you,
If "You" Owned the Pilot chain how much "profit" would you expect
    from your operation "investment"?

Depending on the amount of Investors you would obviously not be entitled to 100%

i know my little boycott will not make a dent in the profits....but it is the principle of the thing....maybe if we can do something to get the company to take notice, maybe something will change. i am sic and tired of watching my fellow drivers drive their lives for this country, and the country we serve treat us the way they do. it just isnt right. the interstate was designed for trucks, yet the 4wheelers (and we have to tolerate it) get out there and overwhelm us. we don't even have room to move, yet it's "our" fault for all the wrongs and crowded interstates. now the truckstops are turning against us too (for the mass *4 wheeled* population). no one seems to care what life is like for us out here any more. what can we do about it? we are the unseen, unheard, silent minority. more needs to be done to make the public aware of who we are, what we do and why we are out here. omg, how I wish we could all just shut down for 1 day just to get people's attention!! have a well planned shut down and on the day we shut down, have a spokes person give a press conference with a message from us to the american people and businesses. 1 day of no freight, 1 day of not buying fuel, food, showers, misc.....then they would see just how much revenue truckers do bring in. I have heard people say: "i wish there were no trucks on the road", I wish we could/would show them what "1 day without trucks would do"!! the old school truckers know what i am talking about. truckers today just aren't made of the same stuff as yesturyear. we are the minority, yet we have the most power of anyone to create change in this country. the problem is...we just cannot get organized. i am not a rebel rouzer, but i am for making a stand.
