HELP! Need Info on BEST Lease on O/O Co.'s and Landstar advice

I would stop right there. After hearing you cannot survive on less than $2000 a week! There are going to be weeks where you do not get any pay at all and must pay to keep the truck running. This may well be the reason he was not accepted. If a company driver has taken advances in the past, that right there would be a red flag. Becoming an O/O simply to survive is not a good idea. Becoming an O/O is not only driving but running your own business. Something may have come up in his past that Landstar didn't think would be good business practice or something to that effect. Does your husband take frequent home time? That too is a big no no as an O/O. Credit history, pay stubs, on time delivery, truck maintenance etc... all play a part in that decision. This most undoubtly sounds like they have found something in your husbands past. I would really take their decision as a thank you and also that the company seems to really care about your husbands driving career. Any other douche bag company would have stuck him in a lease and ruined him. Take their advice and keep your chins up! Being an O/O isn't all it's cracked up to be. I owned my own trucks for several years and there were times where I would not get paid for months. Breakdowns, weather, sickness can really put a burden on him and his family. I hope you do not take this post in a bad way. I am really trying to help you. I know some other experienced drivers on here will chime in too with some experienced opinions. Aftershock where are you? Aftershock is a very experienced driver with a wealth of info. Hopefully he will see this post. He is much better at laying it out and explaining the ins and outs than myself. You guys seem to have been doing just fine as company and apparently Landstar is really looking out for you. Not many companies out there will do that. Please adhere to their advice. Good luck guys it's not the end of the road. It is just the beginning of a successful driving career.

 

Sorry to hear about your situation with land star. Some of these companies have funny rules but its all to protect them and you. Maybe you should look into getting your own authority and going from there. Its easy to do just time consuming. I would say you will be better off. NOt alot of people do great leased to these big companies but theres alot of people doing great on there own. Probably wont take any longer to get your own authority lined up then to start over trying to lease with someone. Once the authority is active you can start booking loads asap and your on the way.

This is true but sad with the state of this country it might be a blessing as I know alot that are leased to L/S and some do good others no so good ...I would do the own authority as thats what I am doing now I was leased to crst malone RWI and did ok with them but they treat you as a company driver this is why I left the industry 2 years ago and done local but thats not who I am.....So I found a truck and trailer and going with my own thing all paid for no payments and run when i want and how ...I wish you the best with what you all do ......

 

couple of questions I have.

does he have a felony?

how many accidents in last 3 years?

has he ever lost his license?

what about a DUI? um drunk drivers don't deserve to drive in my opinion.

heres the biggest one lately. How many jobs has he had in last 3 years?

The first 4 are almost always disqualifiers the last one is a new one the companies are starting to use against drivers in the last 3 years or so since I quit YRC in 2007. Best bet if he has had more then 6 jobs in 3 years he may want to stay at YRC for another year. or find another place if he can't handle YRC. The reason the companies are going after the job hoppers is both to ruin the lives of drivers and because they think they (the company) isn't the problem but the driver.... And where ever you go and make 2000 bucks a week pm me I want to go too. since no company I have seen that you can bring home $2000.00 a week unless your heavy haul maybe. or some other specialized carrier type.

 

Ls looks at your ablity to fund your side of the business, as a first time owner, no track record they need to look at your abilty to fix your truck without borrowing from them, Many have bought a few tires or had a big repair bill and got help from LS and then quit, and never repaid their loan. They even mention it in their quartely report.
Many think just because you have a truck and meet minium requirments you just sign on, but they only hire about 3 out of 100 that apply.
