If you got into a two-year old truck, you'd be running it for 1 year on the reefer side. Two on the flatbed or tanker side.

Thx Bartage! , How long does it usually take to get through the application process? I'm into a third week with things moving along very slow. Haven't heard anything negative from the recruiter I'm dealing with. However it is very hard to get her on the phone. Messaging machine almost all of the time and no return calls except once out of about 7 times. Last I heard was MVR etc., all OK! Was told I would get a call from her yesterday but NOT!!

Huh??? You fill out a form, fax it to your FM, and pick your passenger up. Done.

They're slammed. Best advice is to pick a time when you can do this... call, park on hold, and wait for her to pick up. Forget about voice mail - that's so far down their priority list, they're not going to get to it reliably. Email is probably a better shot, but not as good as just getting in the hold loop.

I just left Prime (tanker) 2 weeks ago after 1 1/2 years and here is my 2 cents worth on them. I started out as a company driver so that I could talk to other drivers before I decided to lease or not. After 2 months I went ahead and leased on with them. As a company driver they paid me $.39 a mile and I made decent money (never had to take an advance). When I leased with them my TAKE HOME pay (even after decucting 20% for taxes myself) averaged $1,200 - $1,700 a week. I had one week where I only took home $800 (due to the fact I went home twice that week) and one week where I pocketed $2,400.00. With that being said, in order to do that you have to take everything they give you and stay out (no going home every week). I also had to be very creative with my logs. Not so much because of all the miles, but due to taking power naps instead of legal breaks. I took my chances (my log would be numerous days or states behind me catching up).

They then offered me a local position for a contract they signed with a company in North Jersey. That was my biggest mistake I ever made. Again, the pay was good but showering, eating, and things of those nature really sucked.

The reason I left was due to the fact that they got to the point where they would do anything this company asked them to do and I wasn't willing to move the contract companies trailers all over their yard or pick up trash in the parking lot that wasn't mine or other Prime drivers without being compensated. If anybody has been to the piers in Newark know what a hell hole it is and all the trash that is all over the area. They offered me the chance to go back on the road which I accepted, but everytime they called me or I called them they kept asking me to go back which I got tired of.

All in all with that being said they really aren't a bad company to work for if you want to work. They have their problems like everyone else but they really are decent. I gave up long ago the pissin matches with FM's. My motto now is: If your not happy with my services (driving, customer service, and appearance) then let me know because I am a grown man and I won't let the door hit me in the you know what.

Their Springfield terminal is like nothing I ever seen before.

Yeah, I had the paperless logs but it depends on how the company sets them up. My brother in law drives for Dunkin Donuts and the computer puts them onduty as soon as they release the brakes which sucks if your just moving from one door to another.

With Prime, you actually have to be under dispatch or drive so far before it is activated.

Like I said I was local (would just pull tanks on the scale and the customer would load them), which I never had to actually log on for. Then if they didn't dispacth me I could drive off duty. For example I worked a straight 24 hour shift loading trailers then took a loaded tank to Pittston yard for someone to deliver 20 miles away, then all the way back to Newark off duty. Nothing was ever logged. If I got in an accident I would of been screwed, but I am about the money. I think I dropped and hooked less than a dozen trailers that day and made that hop to Pittston for $600.00
