I am 53 and retired from the military. Before Vietnam I drove Bekins van lines for 2 years. Now I want to get back in. But only as an o/o.

So once I am back up to speed, CDL class A, How long should I drive for a company before purchasing. I can a aford a good used tractor now & have a cousin that has been an O/O for 40 years with many contacts.

    What do you guys think.

It will really depend on what EXACTLY you would like to do, for example: Lease to a company and run their freight, be completely independent and deal with brokers only, etc.
Probably you will have to run as a company driver for one year, maybe even two or three before you can sign on with one of the better companies out there.

To keep cost down, it will also help if you have Mechanical knowledge. I'm sure you do, most of the baby boomer gens do.
