CDL school is going great, and it won't be long now until I'm otr. I have a laptop that I plan to bring along. I was wondering what you guys do when you have to leave something valuable in the truck when you cannot tend to it? I was thinking about welding up a small lockable steel box just bigger than my lap top, then welding some chain to the box wrapping it around the frame work of my drivers seat, then padlocking the chain. I figure unless someone gets into my truck with bolt cutters there would be no way for them to steal my laptop. Assuming i remember to put it in the box. What do you guys to to protect your stuff from thieves, or am i worrying about this too much?

When I wanted to keep something safe, I just stuck it under the bunk, or in one of the cabinets in my Volvo, and nothing ever went missing.
Just make sure you do lock the truck up when you leave it, and definitely keep valuables out of sight.

first of all, if you "show" that much security, you will be inviting trouble. just hide the laptop under the bunk or in a cabinet. lock the doors, with the windows rolled all the way up as well.

the more you "advertise" with locks, chains, steel boxes, big dogs, ugly women, Brink's armed guards, Patriot missles, and Sadam Husseins weapons of "mass destruction", the more you "invite" the criminal elements.........

Hey Pro, nothing scares off wrong-doers (esp sleeper-leapers) like a gal that's been beat with every branch on the ugly tree!:biggrin_255:

Now ladies, don't get offended, as those of you with first hand experience know that now matter how darn fugly a driver is, there is a lot lizard ready to take his money. And the opposite is true, no matter how ugly the lot lizard is (triple bagger) there is a driver eagerly awaiting her paid services.
    Ughh... I need a shower...
