I don't believe this will be held against you. You called them and explained your situation to them. I hope things turn for the better for you and your son gets on the right track. Roehl isn't going anywhere. When you are able to go on the road I bet they will be happy to take you.

As I don't know homeboy at all I have no idea why he is having these issues with Roehl. I have a feeling that there is more to the story then what is being told. My husband started with Roehl in April 2006. His W-2 showed he grossed a little over 32,000.00 in a 8 month period. Someone we know was with Arrow Trucking. He always wanted to be sent by his home, always had an excuse why his load wasn't delivered on time and can be less than diplomatic when dealing with shippers, receivers or his DM (this comes from listening to him). And he wonders why he sat for days and didn't get miles. His latest stunt was he was assigned a load orgininating from Tn to go to Ne the next day. He had 12 hours to drive before he had to reset his time. He insisted he wanted to go to his house instead of driving to Ne to reset his hours at home. He couldn't understand why Arrow said no. Well he went home anyway....(he lives in Mo). Needless to say the load didn't get to the receiver on time. He decided he was quitting and did so while under the load and with the truck being at his house. Well Arrow got another driver to get the load to deliver it to Ne and this person decided that maybe it would be better for him if he brought the truck back to Ok. Arrow got him a load to bring to Ok. He wonders why the fleet manager supervisor was less that thrilled with him. Now he thinks he will have no problem driving for another company but can't understand why he isn't getting call backs. Well he got one call back. Apparently he is going to drive for JB Hunt. Or at lease until they get his DAC report. So maybe one reason for not doing well with a company could be partly a driver's fault.

RoadDog: I have been talking with ROEHL about the 7/3-4 out of the Mogadore yard. I live right across the border in PA. So $700 a week is about what that program will average out to? Considering 3 drivers of the same tractor, how beat up is the equipment? What direction to you normally run out of Akron (NSE or W). The lady at ROEHL said they normally try to get you a long haul for your first leg out to get a good jump on the mileage. Seems like with only 7-days out a paycheck can rapidly dwindle with the slightest glitch. Any details you can give me about the 7/3-4 and the Akron yard would be appreciated. Thanks, geargrinder!

Geargrinder,I do the 7 on 7 off program, and yeah if I dont get a good long run out of thec yard I am playing catchup all week.I like to start off with a run going to TX,or FL,but this time of the year things dont always pan out that way. This last week out was a bummer, took a load to Franklin,WI.then picked up in Green Bay for Ala.but had to relay it to a team in McLean,IL.then took their load to E.St.Louis,and dropped it in the drop yard.Picked up a load in Granite City,IL.and took it to Searcy,AR.Then went to Jackson,TN.and picked up a load for Rochester,NY.Unloaded Thurs.eve.and picked up a load in Dunkirk,NY.and dropped it in Mogadore yd.Then came home.Miles for the week were 2865,not really too bad for all of the jerking around.I live in NE,OH,about an 87 mile drive to the yard.I think the 7-3-4 drivers are on a setup where 3 drivers use 2 trucks,so you will not always have the same truck.Roehl does keep their equip.in good shape.Their Trucks are Freightliner and International mid roof trucks.I normally average about 3000 mi.on my 7 day trip.Sounds like you live in a good area to hook up in Mogadore.OH yeah,Roehl is outgrowing the Mogadore yard and they are supposedly looking for another drop lot in the same vacinity.I leave out on Sat.morning and get back in the yard sometime on Fri.On one trip I got back to the yd.at about 3 AM on Sat.Hope this info helps you out.Good luck in making your decision.

For everybody else, I feel that I have made a great decision to join Roehl after my enlistment. I have done about a year of research due to the fact that my elistment is about over and I will not be reenlisting...(but that's a whole nother story) and chose to sign with Roehl. I feel that I will be proud to drive for them and also feel that they are a company that I can retire from....when the time comes. I will be attending class on July 23 and will keep you all posted on my adventures.
To everyone who is already in the business...keep them wheels a turnin' and stay safe! -

My posts are not so much to blame others, but to express deep disappointment in what I expected versus what is the reality. I just returned from another tour and my total mileage for 14 days is 3874 miles. I am discouraged by talking to other drivers that I see in terminals and truck stops. Everything has been negative. Drivers are quitting at each terminal I stop at and those that are talking to me express the same frustation that I am having. Am I the only one? No. But others seem to be more tolerant. Perhaps it IS me. I wish I could have someone tell me what to do so I could make a living at this. I thoroughly enjoy traveling across our nation and meeting different people, the satisfaction of picking up and delivering on time and the challenges of negotiating an 80,000 pound vehicle through tight places. I do. However, I cannot afford to continue this venture at my current mileage and bring home pay.
Finally, to each of you that I may have discouraged, I am sorry. I hope your experience is better than mine, as I hope mine also improves. I have been told that freight is picking up and better times may be ahead. I will accept blame for anything that may have hindered my career with Roehl, but I would at least like for them to perhaps acknowledge that the picture they paint about trucking and Roehl specifically is not exactly what it seems.
Again, Javajunky, I apologize for my comments of a few weeks ago. I was wrong in reacting in this manner.
