I have prior experience. Most companies would not recognize it because it was too long ago, so I had to do the refresher/contract thing. I can't leave without owing for the contract. Actually, the company itself has not been my trouble. I have a good FM and a decent truck right now. Heck, I don't even mind so much teaching someone what their trainer apparently didn't. Attitudes are a different story.

Had a little dispute with this guy over HOS and the 34 hour restart rule. He had this idea that it was mandatory when you hit your 70. I told him that it was optional. Then we had to go through the regs, with him reading trying to prove me wrong. Then he ran up against words like "may". It amazes me that when you tell someone that you have seven years exp driving they assume you have never read the regs. Then they try to prove you are wrong because they have 3 months exp. lol, its just silly. He called the safety man, but never got a return call on it. I told him we were just in carlisle, why didn't you go talk to him?

My experience with the company itself has not been a bad one. If I find a decent co-driver, it could be a decent gig. I have had a good trucking job before. CRST is not the worst company I have ever driven for. I told this guy that and explained to him about one of the companies I had driven for before to prove my point.

It's not CRST's fault that this guy didn't like to shower. After I had a talk with him, and told him we could get a shower, he said "ok, let's get this done". Wow, taking a shower was a chore to this guy..

I would like to know why his trainer did not teach proper coupling techniques, or teach him that gas stations are not truckstops.

Hopefully, I will get a decent co-driver this next go-around. I made ok money, and we ran pretty good. Like I said, I have a good FM, and I think that makes a big difference.

You need three things: A good running truck, a good FM. and a good co-driver.
Next, you need to learn the way the company runs (system). Run your loads and build trust for on-time deliveries. When you get air-freight, do everything you can to deliver early or on-time. As you "prove" yourself and "the airfreight people" get to know your truck, things can get pretty good. A good FM can run the dog ^&%$ out of you. Some FM's are not that good, I hear. So, if you get a decent FM, do what you can to keep him or her. Once they "know" they can rely on you, then they seem to run you better.
Sometimes you sit, and sometimes you run. Sometimes there really is no freight running in an area. Try to deliver loads before night or weekend dispatch...some of them don't seem to have a handle on things and want you to do things that make no sense whatsoever and are perfectly willing to waste your time. So, try to avoid this and do all you can to let your FM do the dispatching, if possible. Hope this helps.
