    Hi everyone! Nice site here,

I'm new to this site and trucking. I am interested in getting a truck driving career going. So far I have contacted SWIFT and CR ENGLAND. I have read many posts on this BB and have not seen too many positive responses for either company and or its practices. So what's a 37 year old guy to do? Who is a good "starter" company out there. Should I just bite the bullet and go with Swift, get the experience then start looking toward another company after I gain enough experience? I would really appreciate some sound advice. I have worked for many years on jobs in the film industry but I cannot wait for more jobs to come along. I need a steady job and I love to drive, love trucks, etc.

    Thanks in advance,

MajorMarvin (Not really a major) :biggrin_25514:

I would move and leave no forwarding addy so they can't contact you back!:biggrin_25523: I would never; ever tell someone to call CR. Not even one of my brother-in-laws. I am not crazy about swift either. Just curious how did you single them 2 out?

CR England and Swift advertise heavily in my area. Do you have a recommendation for a good "starter" company?

    Thanks in advance!

Sorry. I won't be much help to you. Not my neck of the woods. I know of some smaller companies that are decent to start with. They don't hire in that area tho. You may have to go with a bigger company to get your foot in the door unless someone on here knows something in your area.

Check out Schneider National and Central Refrigerated Services, those are 2 training companies that have a little better rep than the 2 you have been looking at.

You could even look at USA, Prime, PAM. Those companies are probably better to start with than CRE or Swift...(not sure about Prime)

But I'm not sure if any of those mentioned hire in your area. Just google the company names and check out their hiring areas.

Roehl has a great rep around here, but I am doubtful they hire in your area, but definitely check out their site just to be sure.

Best of luck and do plenty of research before you commit to a contract with one of the training companies.
