No need to lie. I get paid by the hour, and most days I only run about 100 to 200 miles, sometimes it seems like half of them are in reverse lol. You know, that brings up a question, if I run more miles in reverse than forward in a day, and my odometer turns backwards (mechanical speedo) I end up with a negitive number for the miles I ran that day (I'm not kidding this has really happened) how do I log it legal without going back in time?
Just in case you are wondering, the day in question started at 8:00 pm. I was working on the railroad and had to back along side the tracks following a crane that was putting up electrical towers, By midnight I had turned the odometer back a little over a mile.
Do you run illegal on your logs?

My favorite log book story is based on a report in Transport Topics. At one port of entry in a northwestern state, drivers were asked to show their log book. These drivers did not realize that their logs were being faxed to another port of entry in a state farther west. When the drivers arrived at the more western port of entry, they were showing a different log book.

Back when I ran 48 I got pulled into the POE on 84 in OR on the way home from NY and had not touched my log book in two days. I told the Inspector the truth and even thru in a sob story on how I lived in Seattle and was kept back east till after my time off was sapposed to start and then rushed home. He put me out of service for 5 hours and then said get on down the road, and thanked me for my honesty. My company was the targeted for inspection carrier of the day. 2 out of 3 drivers they pulled in before me had no problems with the trucks but got hefty tickets for their log books. All becuase they lied and one, becuase he had no log.
I guess the moral of the story is to be honest and take responcibilty. They might just cut you some slack if you have a good record of compliance and show a little honesty. -

Not going to say how my logs were done. -
I have been giving the chance to "get it caught p" 4 or 5 times. It does pay to be nice. I am always respectful to them. They are just doing there jobs. Occasionally you get one who just wants to be a jerk though. Had one of those in my car a few weeks ago. It's a troper thn hangs around where we built our new shop. SO far he has pulled over 4 people fr not making complete stops. He sits in a gas station and every car that pulls in he ulls right up behind them and runs there plates. I'm really surprised the gas station lets him do that. I won't patronize that gas station anymore because of it. He pulled me over and gave me a $160 fine for expired plates, no warnings with this guy. And he was RUDE, there was no being nice to that guy

Ok so far I see most are running legal.
There is a few that state they shut down for 8 hours and then log a 10 hour break. WHY DON'T YOU SPLIT BREAK and be legal all the time with no worries (wait you probably don't worry). All you have to do is shut down for 2 hours and well understand split breaking. Which is easy believe me!
Ok your preaching is done
Now for those who said they stop for as long as they their body tells them to. Man I wish I could turn you to legal material, but I am on a computer and this is hard, but please start working on running legal. I worry about you guys out there. You must understand the chances you are taking can lead you to prison.
Now for those who shut down for less than 8, learn split breaking and see if this will help, if not well take the same advice I gave the others about prison.
I am sorry guys I know you don't want to hear me preach! I love you all! I hate hearing a driver goes to jail because of his darn logs and he was an innocent victim in an accident, but because his logs was illegal he is guilty. Don't give these crazy people a reason for your to be a target. Your career is far more worth $100-200 extra dollars on that paycheck. I know it is tough, I know all the starving stories as my boyfriend worked construction and we starved many times with no one to bail us/help us out. But I didn't turn to drug selling (thought about it), lot lizzard (thought about it). What kept me from doing it, is self worth for me and the thought of being in jail while my spouse raised my kidsNot happening!
Ok my preaching is done, back to fun and yes you can pick on me as long as it is in good fun taste
