Ontario Provincial Police states that MTO is not allowed to back up trucks on the highway. If their truck lane becomes full they are to shut off their flashing yellow lights.

I almost became a statistic one day. Driving around 60mph in the slow lane on my motorcycle. I glanced to my left to make a lane change, when I looked ahead there was a stopped transport truck. If I hesitated another second I would have been part of the trailer.

It is unsafe to stop on the highway period. Drivers who do should be fined. MTO/DOT who leave their flashing lights on should also be fined. If there is a fatality the driver and DOT/MTO should be put away for a long time.

Good point on the E parking only.

Forcing traffic to sit stopped on the road waiting to enter the scale is an incredibly huge liability lawsuit looking for a good place to happen.

Not only for the truck driver but also the scale op on duty that day and the state. I don't mean to be vindictive but if I was stopped in the road waiting for the backed up scale and I got hit there would be more than one major lawsuit that the state would be defending.
I doubt that any jury would see it as OK to force trucks to park on the highway waiting to enter a scale.

Have your lawyer contact them and inform them of what will happen. :biggrin_25525:

Then start bypassing it. Be sure to save a copy of the letter to give the ossifer that pulls you over.

And send copies of it to the governor, local politicians, and the media. Maybe nobody notices, maybe it blows up into an issue. Especially if enough drivers send in the same letter at the same time.

I have seen signs stating if the ramp is back up to go ahead by it, i have yet to do this but it says that trucks can bypass if the ramp is back on to the roadway. Thanks.
