Got a C12 2000 , ive done the fuel temp sensor(.08 cent),free flow muffler and unhook the wastegate ( now run at 28-30 psi). The truck run great, getting 7 mpg hauling light load as a boat hauler.

My question is what should be my next mod costwise? thank

If it's running good, pulling good, and getting 7 MPG, don't mess with it, and pocket the money you would spend on mods that may shorten the engine life.

Stranger is right, 7mpg is great i wouldnt mess with it. I have a 2002 C12 and i'v done what you have and get roughly 5.5mpg grossing 80K on flat ground in midwest. PDI has ECM programs and turbos also

    I have a 2000 c-12 also,,did the fuel wire and the m100463 muffler thing!!!
Mine works great and gets great fuel mileage for pulling a 5 axle grossing usually above 135000 lbs!!!
I talked to "Mr Haney" on here,,he can program your ecm,,and there is a turbo available!!!
Not many people run c-12's,,so its kind of difficult to find out what works,,,and what is a safe limit to push these engines before something goes south!!!

Out here, Inky Tulloch used c-12's in his race truck, so considering he was using them in a twin turbo 1200hp+ setup under race conditions, im sure they are plenty strong..

now i know that wouldnt work on a working truck, but there should be no reason you cant put the power right to them and not have them live.

I do believe theyre a tough little motor,,,the only thing that would really worry me is hearing of the odd story of a c-12 having a clip or wrist pin (something along those lines) letting go,,,and then whatever is left of the rod,,sawing through the block!!!
Had one fellow tell me he had seen one,,,all that was holding the engine together was the cylinder head!!!!
I know the fire trucks have a 500 or 505 rating with i think a 1550 tq rating!!
I personally wouldnt be afraid to get a 500 or possibly a 525 tune done,,,not sure i would do that and let anyone hop in and burn up a long hill will a heavy (135000 gross) load on,,,the water temps in these seem to climb pretty quick!!!
Maybe a better tune than the factory one would help water temps??? Anyone???

Hey Slick, your just down the road from me!!

I had a C12 in my 2000 Classic and it was set at 430hp and it pulled better than the 475hp Series 60 I drove after it. It ran hot until I put a new rad in it, then the fan hardly ever came on. A top end set, new turbo and injectors really got it running great. I did all of it when I did the head gasket and water pump so it didn't cost much more for labor.

The RV's and fire trucks did have a much higher hp rating, might be worth a try!!

A buddy had a rod let go in his C12 and all they could save was the oil pan and front drive stuff. Big mess!! His was the only truck in about 15 in the fleet with C12's that let go.

My C12 is heading to the shop tommorow for more than likely an inframe its drinking coolant and puking slime out the blowby but it has 950k on it so it owes nothing but i want to make it scream when i get it back

I have the temp and boost wires but curious if theres anything that should be done in the shop?

Make sure they pull the pan and pressure test, sudden cooolant in the oil can just be the water pump leaking internally.......

    bbechtel16 and Slick900 Thank this.
