When the unit wasn't working it was fluctuating between 0/11 and 1/16ish. As I posted later after over 24 hours at 1513 EST yesterday it starting working and using satellites again. It has been working fine since.

I am having the same or similar issues with the airport POIs. I have my unit on auto zoom level and on distant zoom levels I see airports everywhere. Is there a way to completely wipe and restore the software?

Is there a best official place to make a feature request? I'd like to see the addition of a MM counter in tenths for interstates.

    Thanks,

    Brian

You should have at least 4/x .. anything less and your location will not be as accurate.

Airport POI's are build in the map database.

Did you try to zoom in to see if the Truck POI's show up?

On the Dock and the TND/main screen\truck tools\tell rand

    Thanks,
    Mark

Are we looking at a download again or an SD card? Or can you say yet? More out of curiosity then anything.

at a competitive price? what does that mean? i just shelled out over $500 for the gps less then 3 months ago. Now i have to shell out more money for a map update? i would think for $500 we should at least get a year worth of map updates for free.

on a side note have u got any of my emails mark? im sure your busy so a simple yes will be fine. i dont need u to respond to all of them. just curious.

Sometimes questions asked of me take some digging or testing, but yes i answer all E-Mails. I keep them in my in-box untill resolved.

I have been at Skokie for a little bit helping out on some issues with the last version update. Those issues were found and corrected.

Rand is very determined up to the upper level of management whom I see almost daily as to resolve the last set of issues and get everyone that is down right now back up and running.

The maps you have on your TND are valid, but Rand like any other navigation device company has to buy the main core maps from a 3rd party. Any other GPS offers the same. You can update or not. But to get the most current maps they will be offered at a competive price.

If I bought a laptop with Vista for $1000, and Win7 comes out 4 months later, the box stores would not update me for free.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I think I got the planes to disappear. Thanks.

When is RM gonna rectify this? As a driver, we need to know the trip beforehand so we can know how long it's going to take, etc. Please let me know if they are going fix this & if they're not planning on it, let me know so I can return it before my 30 days is up!

Another thing: about 30-40% of the truck stops & rest areas don't show up. What's up with that? The final question is this: why would a driver spend $400 on a GPS if he still needs to crack open a map & truck guide?

    Thanks!

why do u need to know more then 1 route at a time? i just do my trip and when i get there i program it for the next trip. not hard to do.

as for the truckstop not showing up i havent seen that happen. they always show up for me. i use my littele guide just to double check the stops. i dont use my gps for truckstops. i use my little book. i use my gps for the routes.

IF anyone has come across this when they turn on the TND 500:

The TND 500 displays "Fatal Application Error" and will not restart. I have connected it to the internet to get the latest updates from Rand McNally. Still will not start. At bottom of error messgae is the following info: Program: navi.exe Exception: 0xC0000005 Address: 0030DC04

There is a fix you can do your self for this.
While you have the TND 500 plugged in to your computer, it will have two new drives, one is for the sd card and the other is for the hard drive on the TND 500.

Uninstall the TND dock installed on you computer. Then go to the SD drive listed under my computer and look at the drive (usually L, M, K, etc..) and open the drive. in it you will see the TND set up icon. Double click on that icon and RE-install the TND dock on your computer.

Open the newly installed TND dock program and hit the update my TND, It will re-install the original operating system back on to the TND hard drive its self. Yes, you will have to go back through the task of updating all the files again, but at least your TND 500 will be working again.

On my TND 500, after doing this exact procedure, my existing information was still there, history, address's and all that.

I hope this helps all my fellow truckers out there! Good luck and god bless!

Not a good method since you are not understanding the error itself. All you are doing is hoping the Dock will fix it. Once you unstalled the TND dock you delete any saved files on your C:\ and reinstalling the TND only makes you think you are fixing it...

But, what you are not seeing, is that Rand has fixed the issue causing the fatal error. Once you update the issue is fixed.

DO NOT Uninstall your TND Dock.

    Thanks,
    Mark
