Just taking a wild guess here, but I'd bet that they ran your PSP and it came back not so pretty.

This just happen to me were do i go now. lost my fishing job thinking going back trucking

And the way they explained it to me, was when you get points, say something like a seat belt violation.. Thats 7 points. And for some stupid reason, the points are multiplied by 3. So one seat belt ticket will cost you 21 point. Throw in a couple of unexpected's, and whammo.. your looking for another job.. And if every company goes by the same 50 point scale, you won't be able to drive a truck. -
-
I say, if you can't keep your points down, you need to find another career. -
It's very simple! Most companies that leave you sitting for your next load will not hire anyone who has worked for more than three companies in the last two years. They do not accept the fact of the failing economy as an excuse, they did you a favor. They are looking for drivers with enough intelligence to pay for and operate the controls of the truck but stupid enough to do it for nothing and their B__S__ excuses. You would of course not be entitled to any excuses if hired...

Everyone I know, tries to keep their points down. But sometime, things happen thats out of your control.
You 11 hours is up, and you can't find a legal place to park, so you keep driving. Bam..Points.
Go a few miles over the speed limit (even 2 mph) bam you got points. You may only get a warning. But the points are still there.
Turn on you light at dusk, one goes out. Bam, you've got points.
get a nail in your tire, and it goes flat before you can make it to a tire shop. Bam.. you've got points.
You must have been out here very long.. -
I like the guys who think they are 100% legal, but it is only because they do an incomplete pre-trip or they are not mechanical enough to catch all the defects.
Did you crawl under the truck? Look for chaffed airlines? Inspect all the brake lining on every wheel for cracks? Are there any cracks in the frame rails or crossmembers? How do you know? Do you go over every inch of the truck before you drive it every day?
I've been doing this stuff since the late 70's and have been a Pa state inspection mechanic since 1979.
I have yet to see a working truck that I couldn't find a defect on if i wanted to.Paddletrucker, Tankergirl80 and hrdman2luv Thank this. -
Going west on I80. Got inspected. I keep my truck in very good working order. When something goes wrong, I fix it. Lights, brakes, or anything else.
The inspector found a crack in one of my brake shoes less than an inch long. BAM....Points
She also found a slack adjuster that was about 1/16th out of adjustment.
I knew the show had a small crack in it. And was planning on getting new drums and pads on both sides as soon as they started getting close to being "too far gone". It was on the list...
But I wasn't going to spend $250 on a set of pads that were still in good condition. And the slack adjuster,... Well, I'm not going to check each one with a set of micrometers...But she did.
Funny thing about this... I went and had new drums, shoes and slack adjusters put on. And now, I've got some squealing when I stop. And hard vibration when I back up and apply the brakes....I'm pretty sure, it's just the new shoes and drums working themselves in. I've had it checked twice, and that's all they can find...
But according to the DOT, those loud squeals and vibration are OK.
But, in the end, I still have more points from something that didn't make me or anyone else, unsafe....
For the life of me, I can't see how anyone would support this CSA 2010. Unless they were lacking "common sense". -
