My friend told me they are closing the Memphis terminal. He heard that from Fontana.
They already laid off 60-80 people. Mostly jobs that are going to be done in Phoenix. Some got transferred.
I don't see why they would close the terminal as their shop is better than most, and lots of freight coming out of Olive Branch.
Is it true?

Memphis is their 2nd or 3rd biggest terminal, and i dont see it closing. Maybe my email to Richard Stocking helped, cause i sure laid into memphis. =)orion3814 Thanks this. -
What are company are you talking about?
-
Well, being in the Swift section.........
Dick what did you say about Memphis to the guy who runs the company?
It was my former mentor who told me. I thought about asking when I was in Memphis yesterday. Then thought differently.orion3814 Thanks this. -
swift operates an academy out of their memphis terminal. it is one of their main terminals. i was there for two weeks at the beginning of this month for school. i saw nothing that would indicate such nonsense. also, i know two people who are signed up to enter their memphis school the third week in january. i am also unable to find any news of layoffs in such numbers in any local or national news regarding swift or their memphis terminal specifically.
not to be mean, but you could have answered this question yourself with a little hard thought and critical thinking. even if this were actually happening, no one on here would be able to speak a word about it until it had made the news or they would risk retribution.
happy thanksgiving. -

I had been lead to believe that i'm planned on weekends out of memphis (DM even told me)....then come to find out from the VP of midwest ops, that i'm planned after hrs and on weekends by my home terminal....Edwardsville. If i'm in the chicago market, Manteno/Edwaks/Memphis can plan me. But i told the guy how dis-jointed it is, for me to send a message or 'call' memphis, and if they have to forward my message to a planner, has to message or call the planner in edwardsville, rather than just letting me message or call the planner. -
Story was many in safety etc that had jobs duplicated. They may be moving to a centralized dispatch.
When my mentor switched his CDL to Arizona he had to send the info to Memphis. His new home terminal is Fontana, was switching from Minneapolis. Why Memphis?
Also as a mentor an employee calls all his former students asking questions. Why Memphis? I am the only student he has mentored from Memphis.
Really why do we need planners all over the country? DM's too!
I want to be a virtual trucker. Drive my truck like they fly drones. I can truck and surf the web! Truckin in my PJ's!
