well i cant send PMs yet. go to ebay and use this exact search. Galaxy Viagra. the board will show as a version C and it is 50 bucks plus shipping.

edit: any reputable radio shop should have these boards and know how to install them.

Right, the 979 has the upper and lowe SSB, but he is talking about a band of lower and upper channels.

I ended up going with a Stryker 440hp.. had everything I was looking for, and does not have to be "tuned" since it has 50 watts of power already.. appreciate all the feedback.

I know this is a dumb question but I looked up the Stryker 440hp and it says it is a 10 meter radio. What exactly does that mean? Does it have the regular cb channels as well as upper/lower channels and upper/lower sidebands?

Thanks to anyone who can advise or help.

Right. It's advertised to be a 10 Meter Radio (CB Radios are 11 Meter) and it's not FCC certified because it can easily be converted to also pick up the 11 Meter CB Band...All the so called "Export Radios" are not FCC certified for this reason...The Export Radios also do more watts than a CB Radio (which is the main reason people buy them and have them converted to also pick up the CB Band) A CB can only DK up to 4w's on AM and 12w's on SSB, but there's no limits on the Exports.

IMO, if your thinking on spending $150+ on a CB, and then adding echo boards, extra channels and such which would run the original price of the radio well above $200, it would make more since to just buy a Export that already had that stuff built in...Plus, you would end up with allot more power...

A CB that has had echo boards or roger beeps or extra channels added or noise toys, and bigger finals, are just as illegal in the eyes of the FCC as the Exports are...( which really is no big deal...sorta like speeding down the interstate...it's only illegal if your caught! And only way your going to get caught, is if someone turns you in for messing up their TV sets or you start getting on the Ham channels and some hammie turns ya in...Stay on the CB channels, and you'll never have a problem)

There is only one 10 meter radio ever made that TRUELY was a 10 meter radio that is the HTX-10 Radio Shack.

The rest are just illegal radios made for the illegal CB market

Channels .... There are 40 CB channels AM or SSB the AM mode uses both sidbands SSB you can pick upper or lower but in fact you still only have 40 channels. There are no extra ones.

Power you are allowed 4 watts AM on a CB radio that's it ........ :biggrin_2556:

Roger beeps are not illegal eccho is not illegal things that compress your audio are not illegal as long as they are not built into the radio If you abuse them that is illegal ...... Same applys to most HAM radios you can have them but very few do.

As Jessy said stay off 10 meters and don't screw up the Tv or phones and no one really cares .... Even us nasty mean old HAMMERS ....:biggrin_25510:

NOPE! You have 120 channels. Sideband is a MODE OF OPERATION on the SAME channels. No "as well" to it! :biggrin_25513::biggrin_25525: If the radio has sideband, it has sideband. Period.

So is the Stryker 440hp considered an export radio and how hard is it to convert it to pick up the regular CB channels? Can you recommend a radio that is already "pumped" up? Thanks.

I posted a reply to Jessy. But anyone one can reply. I see you are online so maybe you will see this post as well. What I want is a radio that if it is not already putting out 50watts or whatever, more than 4 anyway, for regular CB channels is one that is easy to adjust the output by the turn of a few variable resistors as in something I could do myself. I looked at the Galaxy 959 and it seem to be able to easily adjust it. Just trying to get out a little further on the regular cb channels when needed. Hope this makes sense. I am no radio guru.
