used to driver for ta myself if you have any experience they force you to lease if you have no experience you can then go company. i had to lease they didnt tell me this untill after i left the other company and set through orientation. anyway when you first start they will run you alota loaded miles then it changes to alota empty miles which you pay for the fuel anyway. good luck and be safe.

 

This sounds wonderful. Was this your first driving job? Is your truck paid for or are you making payments? Is this something that students right out of driving school can do? Can an individual right out of driving school, purchase their own truck in order to haul containers? But say, driver can't qualify for loan on truck? What then? Do you pay for repairs and maintenance? What about accounting work? What about taxes, insurance or baseplates? How does all of this figure into your net?

 

You already can see that it's not my first.YES my truck is paid for which is a 2002 freightliner CL,470/DET. Which i paid $11,000 off of ebay from an owner operator.Which is the best way to buy a truck because he or she knows the truck well & can tell u about it, PLUS show u paper work on the maintnance that was done. Thats how u get a good running truck to make money with & very little maintnance,plus i have a great local mechanic who just want your bussiness & not just to get rich off of one job. LIKE I SAID N MY LAST POST I JUST WANTED 2 GIVE THE NEW 2 O/O A SAMPLE OF WHAT CAN BE MADE.Repairs & maintnance is no problem when u got a good truck that someone else put a lot of money into & stay on top of small repairs first. My biggest repair was on this truck was 8 new tires which cost me $3000 & that's only 2 paychecks.ACCOUNTING & TAXES...LOL... I do my own accounting which is easy cause i'm home very often & taxes i do once a year like company drivers & i only pay $325.00 to get may taxes done & with all the write off...lol..i do alot better when i was a company driver getting $200 a week taking out of my check. NOT ANY MORE...LOL. My ins is only $120 a month & if i just wanted bobtail ins then it will only be $39 a month,but i like having the physical damage just n case.And u ask about baseplates...lol..please driver that's only one paycheck cause again i don't do a whole lot of states,so u do the math if i'm netting $1600 a week.One more thing b4 i end this post, I DO NOT BLOW MY CASH ON NON.SENSE LIKE ALOT OF OPERATORS DO.7 paychecks already paid 4 my truck. Well they lied to you about the miles. I usually get good miles. Right now, its kind of sucking tho. ^00 to 700 $ a week is about right for a company driver. L/O's won't make much more tho after all the expenses are taken out, plus you'll have a lot of weeks that you go into the hole.

Have you ever run a business before? Do you know things like doing quarterly taxes? What you can deduct etc.? Have you learned what our freight lanes are, where you might end up sitting if you accept a load there?

What I'm trying to say, is there are a lot of things you ought to check out and know before considering such a move. Don't want to see you come on here in 6 months, getting out of driving cause your not making a living.

Drive Company for a while and then you will know for sure if you should lease. Congrats on completing training.

 

Calalan, go companey off the bat, I was in your shoes back in August and said almost every thing you have been saying and I didnt listen to the drivers out there, and now im back home because I couldnt make enought to pay the bills while on the road. If I would have gone companey I would have pulled at least 600 a week and still be out there. Listen to the old addage if it sounds to good to be true it probllbly is. you can alway lease later. dont be suprized if they tell you you can lease and if you dont like it you can go back to companey, thats what they told me and I fell for it.
