Depends on what it was for, and when it happened. Still on probation sounds like not enough time has passed since the conviction. Best thing would be to call a recruiter and ask...

I know many times if you're on probation, especially for a felony, you are unable to cross state lines without contacting your probation officer, receiving permission, etc. Sometimes you can't even leave the county you reside in. That would obviously pose some major issues, if that's the case in your situation.
If you want to be a company driver, Prime will want you to have a TWIC card, Passport (ability to travel into Canada), as well as being HazMat certified. I don't think you'll be able to accomplish any of those things while still being on felony probation. I'm not sure what the exact background requirements are for any of those things, but it's something you might want to look into.
I can't give you a 100% for sure answer, but my guess is if you're still on probation, it'll be a no-go. Depending on the crime, you could get hired in a relatively short period of time, you might have to wait 10 years, or if it's something extreme, they will never take you. A felony, by rule, isn't an automatic disqualifier at most trucking companies. However, they normally want several years between the time you were charged and the time they hire you.
To be honest, your timing isn't real great. Since the economy is so bad, trucking companies are able to be more selective on who they hire since there are more applicants than normal. People without any criminal history are being turned down for one reason or another. So you certainly have some huge hurtles to overcome.
You'll never know unless you give it a try though!
Good luck.. -
Well....I was debating between Prime and Stevens. I've officially decided to go with Prime. Thanks alot for the input here on the boards, it really helped. I am scheduled for a start date of 1/25/11.
Only one concern....I do not have my birth certificate, and it will take 18-24 days to order it and get it. My recruiter told me not to worry about it, I could order it (my expense) when I get there, that way they know it is ordered and on it's way. I'd hate to get out there, only to be sent home again until I get it. The info I received, says that I need to bring it when I show up. Has anyone heard of this being done? I know that the recruiters will say whatever they need to fill a seat, and I don't want to get there only to have someone else tell me that they will not order it, and send me home. -
My recruiter told me not to worry about it, I could order it (my expense) when I get there Get the recruiter to send you an EMAIL or FAX stating that and take it with you.
BigDadd Thanks this. -
Probably a good idea....Thanks for the advice! -
Well, it doesn't do the recruiter any good if you're sent right back home. Still, it sounds a little fishy to me. Not saying it's not true, but I can't see them putting you out on the road in a truck without all required documentation in hand. I would double check this, confirm, and like flatbed said, get it in writing.

It sounded a little odd to me too. He knew right off the top of his head the price and who they use to get it, so that kinda made me feel like they had done it before. Just seemed a little off. I e-mailed him today to confirm it, and explained that I didn't want to go just to get sent home, so when he gets back to me, I will print it out and bring it with me like flatbad suggested. -
A few more questions ....
...............How exactly does the fuel bonus work?
............... Anyone dispatched out of Pittston? Do they keep you pretty much in the northeast, or will I still be spread out all over?
.................Any trainers out of Pittston, I'm headin to springfield 1/25/11, and only live 15 miles from the Pittston Terminal. -
Not dispatched out of Pittston, but know all dispatchers work off the same freight base and you will run the whole lower 48.
Good luck, man, and welcome to Prime.basedinMN_ Thanks this. -
