And did you not see my comment "malicious or intentional",
Accidents happen, and part of doing business,..Where do we draw the line??
Say your driving down the road and a tire blows,.The company says it's your fault and you must have hit something, Do you get to start buying tires for your boss????Paddington and scottied67 Thank this. -
let me guess--its the same companys that pay 32 cpm and call it a high wage
Paddington Thanks this. -
And they'd be happy to do so, too.
I dunno...this new breed of trucker...that's why I'm trying to get the hell outta this biz...too many MORONS!!!!walleye Thanks this. -
I never tore anything up and take pride in my equipment. I don't have a clue how someone can tear a door off??
I wouldn't pay for anything either. Go ahead and fire me, I'll draw unemployement off you. They hate them words.
Any other job a worker tears something up, they don't pay for it. Don't know why some drivers think they should. The company doesn't want to file an insurance claim, that's their problem. Give me the option to get insurance then.
That's IF I tore something upscottied67 Thanks this. -
Wow, must be nice to be perfect. I'll have to admit to a few mistakes along the way. . .
wildbill123, panhandlepat, Injun and 1 other person Thank this. -
I damaged a trailer and some of my paycheck went to pay the deductible.

I've had a few bumps in my road, I'll admit. And if damaged occurred due to my screwup (not checking my mirrors, not paying attention, etc.) then yeah, I'd pay for repair. But it's a fine line to tread. Who determines fault? With alot of bigger carriers, if there's an accident the driver is at fault no matter what. So if my rig loses a hood due to another driver deciding he wanted that hood on the back of his trailer more than I wanted it on the front of my truck, and Saftey decides I'm at fault because "it wouldn't have happened if you hadn't been there that early, driver" (was actually told this by a Safety twit at Werner for another issue.), then I get to pay to have the hood replaced? I don't think so. I'll take responsibility when I screw up. That's how I was raised. But I see a lot of potential for something like this to be abused at the driver's expense, and gods know we get abused enough as it is.
scottied67, Big Don, wildbill123 and 2 others Thank this. -
when you go into business you enter into a risky enviroment where your investment may be lost, as much as a profit may be made on said investment... i did not invest my money on that door (fictional door) or that trailer, so i better not lose money when its damaged. if you buy a trailer and it gets damaged, put it on your p&l form and do a better job of hiring folks that will be perfect every minute of every day. but to make me cover your losses is strong arm robbery. fire me or shut up and keep me, but dont intimidate me and try to take my money. i'll do my very best each day to be damage free, as i appreciate my employer. touch my money and i walk.
chalupa, wildbill123 and scottied67 Thank this. -
okay, let's go down this road. I deal with two railroads and 10 steamship lines on a daily basis. The policy of the UPRR/BNSF is as follows. Blowouts, not caused by damage (curbs, running over debris, or run flat) are paid for by the railroad. All other damage is paid for by the railroad, then billed back to the carrier of record. So yes, my company has bought probably 1 dozen tires in the last year, I personally have paid for 1 of them out of my check. The DCCP (Denver Container Chassis Pool) is responsible for all the non-rail controlled chassis in Denver. When we take one out, if we have a tire issue on the road, the trucking company pays for the replacement/repair, the driver must bring the old tire (or it's remains) back to be examined by DCCP. If they feel it was driver caused, see above, they will not reimburse. I had 5 blowouts last year on DCCP chassis, they reimbursed full on 4 of them and split the cost of the 5th.
Teh reason I went "there" regarding Unions, is this. In the last year or so, I've seen several Union drivers tear up equipment and not give a #### about it, in a couple of cases it was intentional damage. Why don't they give a ####, because the company will pay for it and never bat an eye. What does that say about those drivers?
