This is a new way to find work for us. You can use this to separate the bad companies from the good ones. Once you have the name right and have the DOT number your good to go. From what I see by running my past employers into to this system it will kick out there score. If the score is high = run and don't look back. If the score is low = check some more. Or fill out an app.

I think we as drivers my finally have a way of finding a company that fits us. And no more job hopping.

I use this one to put the name of a company in and find there DOT number.

Then I use http://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/sms/ once you have the dot number and run it you will see what company has the most violations and why.

Like I said you have to play with it to find what you as a driver want.
If your sitting in the truck and wonder how the company is doing, just enter the DOT number from the side of the truck. Good luck all. And may we all find better jobs.

Iron Flyer, NWMAXI and imroz Thank this.

From what I can see one of the places I worked will end up shutting there door if they don't smarten up. Stop all the pushing. And saying "just make it work".

I think this will be a thing of the past because none of us want to loose our career over over it. Let the company take the hit, not you.

These tools have been around since Christ was a cowboy! Nothing "new" about this.

It's important for drivers to be able to weed out the bad companies from the good ones WITHOUT resorting to trial and error. It's equally important for companies to be able to weed out the deadbeats from the good drivers WITHOUT resorting to trial and error.

Thanks for posting about these resources.

I just looked up a company and under the hours of service they had a rating of 97.5% with alert next to it. How do they get to that percentage and how do I interpret that as a new driver comparing companies.

The carrier has had countless HOS violations and with the alert the carrier and possibly drivers have received at minimum a letter from USDOT and the carrier may be getting a visit from the USDOT>

As a new driver you need to conscious of such glaring violation because when you drive their truck and cross a scale and the DOT man taps in their USDOT number you can bet your pay that you will at minimum have your log book inspected. With a number that high I'm thinking that your log book will be looked @ with a fine tooth comb and I highly doubt if they find an error (no matter how minor or if it was intentional) a fine will be levied to you.

If you are thinking of applying for a job my advice is DON'T! Driving one of their trucks is like having a target on your back!

Thanks mgfg, I was completely unaware of that aspect of it. I've spent the evening using it to research companies and its certainly cutting through a lot of the polished recruiter messages.

It's fun when you have them on the phone to pul;l up their numbers and quiz them about how poor they are! Lots of back pedaling and stuttering and stammering!

The lesson about a company I learned from my guy was look at what the driver's cars in the parking lot. Old banged up ones then don't even bother walking in for the interview. Now that is old school!
