SERIES 60 Turbo Rebuild Kit

Never heard of rebuild kit for a turbo.

 

I have no idea if they do rebuild kits but maybe Antrims Diesel can help you out. They are really good at rebuilding turbos. http://www.antrimdiesel.com/ Give them a call.

 

I don't think you will find a "kit" but you are on the right track, I think you'll need a piston ring seal for the exhaust side, 2 bearings, a thrust bearing, maybe a piston ring seal for the compressor side, and an O ring for the seal plate, and a new nut.

Any good turbo / fuel injection shop should have all this stuff, get all the numbers off the tag before you call!

If you don't have anyone local you could try Area Diesel in Carlinville Illinois or Fuel Systems inc. in Brookfield Wisconsin. (Milwaukee)

 

Honestly, I would just save the trouble and get a proper reman turbo. That is the only way to get a proper warranty with it too.

 

I thought about this today, driving around in the snow, so I reread the original post, and HeavyD I have to disagree with you. Don2ws stated he already Had the turbo disassembled, so I would certainly rebuild at this point. If for no other reason, he can have a spare for $150 or so.
I know most people are afraid to go into a turbocharger, but they are really very simple.

 

If there is some place that rebuilds them like that or supplies the parts, then cool. I have never heard of that. Just giving my opinion, thats all.

 

BorgWarner has restricted any authorised dealer or distributor from selling the bearings and o-ring kits. If they get caught selling these parts they will no longer be a dealer or distributor for them. You can take your BW turbo to any BW dealer or distributor and have them rebuilt it for you though.

 

Very sorry to hear that, I will say it's a little hard to understand as this would be such a small percentage of sales It does not seem like it would warrant such a threat to their dealers. Any time I hear something like this I remember what my first boss in a corporate setting told me when I questioned something,"Son you just don't understand big business"

 

The reasoning behind this is to keep peole from mixing and matchin parts. What I mean by this is.........you can buy a BW bearing housing and bearing kit, buy a compressor cover from a knock off company to fit it. Machine the cover to fit a different companies compressor wheel. Use a BW exhaust housing. Then the person that sells this collection of different manufacturers parts doesn't bother to tell the customer it isn't a complete BW turbo. The problem is people were returning these mix and matched turbos to BW for warranty............BW felt that it was hurting their reputation as a turbo manufacturer. If the people can't get the bearing kits to build them.......then it would stop the confusion of who's turbo it was in the first place.

You can still take your worn out BW turbo to any certified BW dealer or distributor and have them rebuild it using geniine BW parts. You can't buy the parts to do it yourself though for the above listed reason.
