First off let me thank everyone on the forum for all the input on trucking companys. Great job people!!!

I am a newbie to the truck driving scene. I graduated from TDDS truck driving school on March 25 2007. During the time at driving school I found this site while researching trucking companies. After looking at how bad different companies are I decided to go to orientation At KLLM. I would like to share my experience with others who may be thinking about signing on with this company.

Things were going well until I learned that the new student drivers were going to be assigned instuctors and run like a team. I questioned this at orientation and was told that I would get used to sleeping while the truck was moving. The fact is we never went to the sleeper at all while the truck was moving. He sat in the passenger seat while I was driving and I sat in the passenger seat while he was driving.Doing this for more than 24 hours more than a few times and over 36 hours one time. I know that this is totally unsafe to operate without sleep for this long of time and to put a new driver in a situation like this is wrong, All the while the instructor is getting paid for every mile that the truck is rolling. Safety is not something that should be taken so lightly!!!

Do not believe the things that the recruiters tell you because they lie just like all the rest. I was told That I would be paid $400.00 a week training pay, well that fact is that you are only paid for the days you are on the truck. That means if your trainer decided to go home for a weekend and drops you off at your house you don't get paid for those days. My trainer had to take a few days off because his wife was having surgery, I was not given the choice to ride with another trainer at this time and was not paid for the days I was off the truck. My trainer was paid his $150.00 training pay for that week even though he was not training. Also my time to upgrade to my own truck was affected because of these days off, so now I had to wait longer to get out and start making my own money. This was the opposite of what the recruiter told me about the training pay. I was told that if the trainer was to drop you off at your house because he wanted to go home for a weekend that the training pay would not be affected. When I called the main office about this they told me that there must be some mistake because the recruiter would have never told me this, so I called my recruiter and she said "we never talked about this", I told her that I had written it down in my notes. Lies,Lies,Lies!!!

I quit this company after we were sent to Atlanta to be routed to Jackson Mississippi so I could be tested out to be assigned my own truck. We never made it to Jackson, we were routed back to Chicago with the promise of going back to Jackson the following week. I believe that i was going to be run for another week to make more money for the trainer so I bailed out in Ohio and went home. What a waste of 7 weeks!!!

    Well, Time to start Again

Beware if you sign on with this company because they will abuse you if you let them.

First off trucking is not for everyone it is not a bed of roses.
Are you one of those newbee's that thought this job would be a giant vacation? It is not a giant vacation it is a job sure you will see some stuff but that will be as you are driving down the highway.

The recruiter may of made a mistake about the training pay things do happen wether or not it was on purpose we will never know.

You may have a hard time getting a job quitting so soon you may also have a report on the dac quitting while under load or under dispatch and most comapany's use the dac. Because you stated that you got off of the truck.
You did not say that you called the company and got premission to get off of the truck. That is were the quitting under dispatch and quitting while under a load comes from.

Nextime while you are in training weather or not it is team driving you get in the sleeper and get some sleep period you violated the law by staying in the jump seat you must have at least 8 hours in the sleeper berth.
Also falsafying your log books is a crime too your lucky that no one got hurt by this stupid decision no to get sleep but that is another post in the forum.
Wait do not say that you did not falsafiy your log book because when you maked down the required sleeper berth time and did not get into the sleeper berth that is how you falsafied your log book.

Yes the comapny may not get to were you want to be in the time that you want it you just need to suck it up and take it.
Rember that no company will go out of it's way just to get you some were.
It costs money to run a truck and if the truck does not go through a certian town or near that town then you must wait. You should of been making money per mile or per week that you were on the truck so it was not like you were working for free.
I have not even been out with my first company yet but will be leaving july 14 but atleast I know that I can not allway get what I want when I want it.
You was at fault for the waisted 7 weeks it was your choice to bail not the company. You may have made more money for the trainer but that is none of your busniess.
You are there for one thing to get trained and to learn how get the loads delivered on time not anything else. You are not trained just by going to school. School only teaches the basics.
I told my recruiter that sure I went through school but my shifting needs work as well as anything else I can pick up while in training.
She said that is exactly why we train all of our new drivers with out any experince.

If my posting the true facts upsets you I am sorry this was not a personal attack on you.
But I belive everyone would agree that it had to be said.

It was your fault for not sleeping. What would make you sit up front and not sleep? You put yourself in this unsafe situation, not the company. You jumped off the truck because you didn't get paid when the trainer was at home. Do you think you won that battle? Ha. Now you're looking for a job and making nothing! The next company doesn't get you home on time. Are you planning on jumping ship again? Ha. Good luck finding another job. It doesn't sound like you're a flexible person. Maybe a 9 - 5 job is better for you.

I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience.

It just goes to show that you cannot believe anything anybody tells you unless it is confirmed in writing.

:biggrin_25514: He sounds like a whinner he will not get much sympothy here from many of us.
He did not even give the company a chance he complains mostly of his stupid choices and tries to blame everyone except the one who is to blame himself.

As I said before that dac report will kill him if he does not get a job soon.

He will be on here soon about the company blackballing him on his dac
but that will be his own fault not theirs.

I agree that he needs a 9-5 job just make sure it is not a local job driving a truck because that may not be a garanteed 9-5 depending on the company and what they do or require.

nevadajim he did not get off the truck because of the pay he got off of the truck because they were not getting to a place to test for an upgrade.

    here is is exact words

I am not sorry about his bad experience with the company it was him that was mostly at fault not the company.

The only thing that was anyones fault besides him was that he lost money because the trainer wanted to be home.

As I posted earlier the company can not get you were you want to be at the time you want it.
You have to be flexible it is not your money running that truck it is the companies money they only get you there if a load travels either real close or through the place you want or need to be period. All newbiee's need to learn that.
I am a newbiee and I know that and not even started yet.
If you are not flexible then do not start driving stay home get a 9-5 job.

People need to quit comming on here and ******* and moaning because they can not handle the trucking job or I dont not get what I want when I want it etc.
Im sorry but the truth is the truth and this has to be said not every joe or jane blow is cut out for truck driving.

Please do not come on here and whinne because you were not cut out for the job.

again I am sorry if this offends anyone or ****** off anyone but it had to be said.

WOW!!! Now That I Got Everyone's Attention I better clarify my story.

First off I have been Involved in heavy duty truck parts for over 25 years. I have heard over the road stories & whinning from truck drivers for a long long time. I know that being out on the road is no vacation and that it takes a certain breed of people to do this type of work.

I was just reporting what had happened to me with my first time out.
Alot of companies do a lot of wrong stuff, just look at some of the other posts on this forum.

As for the not sleeping part. I have never been able to sleep in a moving vehicle. I tried this again when we went out on the road and again this did not work.

Why would a company run you like a team to begin with? This is a practice that should be stopped. How can you be instructed when your trainer is sleeping in the back or sleeping in the passenger seat? How safe is that? you are there to be trained. That means you should have a trainer ready to comment on or instruct you as to what you should doing at any given time. if I would have been flying an airplane would this have been acceptable? NO!!!

As for quitting under a load, it wasn't my load it was the trainers load and under his truck #. I was a trainee. I Called the company after I bailed out and told them I quit. I was told by the night dispatcher that we would have to see if could repair the situation because this should have never
    happened this way.

As for the log books. I was instructed by my trainer how he wanted things logged!!! right wrong or otherwise I was doing what he requested.

As for the not getting me to Jackson Mississippi for the upgrade. I was told by Home office in jackson what day to be there so I could upgrade. a matter of fact when we were sent to AtLanta we were to be sent from Atlanta to Jackson. When we were on our way back to Chicago Jackson called and asked why were we going back to Chicago when we were supposed to be coming to Home office. My trainer said that Chicago had routed us back that way and we would try to get back to Jackson Next week. So it sounds to me that somebody was just trying to get more miles out of me. When we got back to Chicago we were sent to Greencastle PA, that is out by the Maryland State line. That is one of the longer runs that the midwest regional district runs. so you tell me what was going on. Why would i want to make more money for my trainer when I should have been making for myself?

I understand that training is supposed to be training and what your are supposed to learn while being out there. I learned alot while being out there and I'm sure it will help me in the long run.

As for the Company KLLM I have a friend that is working for them as an experienced driver and things are going well for him. As a matter of fact he advised me to get out and try again because he thought what was going on was ********. I was just the lucky one who was lied to this time.

As for some of you that have not been out with a company yet. GOOD LUCK!!!. Some of you other newbies are in for a real treat, Companies will push you around and lie to you if you let them.

MGASSEL who are you going on with in July?

If I have a hard time finding a job because of this then let it be so. but I will continue on with my new career in any way that I have to. I paid cash money for my schooling, not one of those state sponsored boys so I'm in it for the long run.

    STAY SICK, TURN BLUE!!!

First off I am not a supertrucker.

I have been on the road with others so I know What I am getting into.

I have been warned but you need to rember that you need to take things with a grain of salt.
The people trying to warn me are all newbiees not a long term driver. Newbiees know verry little to nothing about the industry the newbiees are not giving all of the facts either they only give bits and peices of the true story.

Yes I will be going with May I am not out there to please everyone just do the job correctly the best way that I can.

Rember that you must be flexible in this indstury you may not get what you want when you want it.

You were assigned that trainer with that truck so you did quit while under the load yes the trainer was the one that had to make sur that it got there but you were suppose to help him get it there.

You should of called the office in miss and told them they can not get me there and we are heading to___ and let the office handle the problems.

Your told you to do legal but you were suppose to also do what you logged. There are some people that may not be able to sleep in a moving truck. You could of asked the trainer to pull over and let you get some sleep.

As I stated before some people are not cut out for truck driving but after trainning it would of got better because your truck would be parked while you slept.

The school that I went to was a private school but accepted money from the state. Just because you paid cash for yor school does not mean a thing it does not mean that you have better training just you have more money than me.
Some people say people are stupid for paying for their own training unless it was cheap.
My training was not cheap plus it was one on one while I was behind the wheel no other student in the sleeper while I was driving and vise versa no observation time can you say that about your training?
