last week i was involved in 2 separat preventable turning accidents how is this going to affect my driving career,i have only been driving 6 months ,school, with trainer and solo. I have photos to prove the other drivers were parked past the yellow safety line ,one approx three feet and the second well over 8 feet but my company still let me or should say told me to clean out my truck and get on down the road,i realize that the accidents were due to fatigue and not properly checking my mirrors so i would like to know how long this is going to haunt me as a truck driver

Whew! Wish I had some encouraging words for you, but I don't. Two in a year is too many for some companies, while others it's six months.

Two in the course of a single day....well, my friend, it's going to be difficult.

At the end of the day you hit 2 stationary objects. At the point in lining up for the turn you should have made the assumption you couldn't make the turn without hitting those vehicles. Even though you have pictures, showing the position of those vehicles, you and only you made the mistakes. If you go ahead and apply at other companies for a driving position be honest with them. Though it may be tough to get a job at this juncture of your career, honesty will be the best policy.

That's very true, don't try to lie. But if I were a betting man I take the odds that you'll be out of work for a long time. One accident you might have be able to convince people you'll never do that again but two. Plus they're the same type of accident. Put yourself in the company's shoes. Would you trust someone with your high dollar equipment that can not turn without hitting a vehicle? Then you say it might have been because of fatigue and you took pictures. Don't you think when you saw the first vehicle over the line you wouldn't be able to make the turn? After all, that's why the lines are there. I would suggest that you save yourself all the headaches of looking for a driving job and change careers.

well you did leave out details...for instance were BOTH turns left hand turns...???? if so, you had so much ample time and opportunity to STOP and make the turn PROPERLY when you proceed to make your turn..there would have been NO EXCUSE to whack something on your left, as it's NOT the blind side..

now if they were RIGHT hand turns, you DID NOT set yourself up right here as well.....

the cars may have been not parked properly, but YOU still hit them......you DID NOT avoid this situation...

now you left out if this was on private property or on the road, and were the cops involved, did you get any tickets...??

having told you to pack your bags is about right...in fact, i would have had them packed BEFORE the company told me to do so.........

if you are a "drive by posting" never to return again, so be it..

if you are a "real person" coming here for advice, then I HIGHLY RECOMMEND GOING BACK TO SCHOOL and get yourself RE-TRAINED......

you need help in your set ups, i do not buy the 'fatigue issue".....

you will be hurting for another job for a while...i highly doubt you will be driving for up to a year from now......i hope you can collect unemployment, you will have to probably have a hearing since you were fired......and this can be hard to make it for you to collect unemployment as the rules generally state, "if you are fired or laid off through NO FAULT of your own".....obviously, you are at fault for being fired...

i wish you well, and good luck

and if you are a "drive by poster".....

i hope your next story is even a bigger "doozie" than this one....:biggrin_25518:
