I wouldn't be too fast to call it a rookie mistake.

thats why they are called accidents---sometimes crap happens
you do your best to control what you do--and what will happen--but other times--some things are beyond your control

You might call it driveable. But actually that scenario, them roads are slicker than a foot of snow. Is it a fresh storm? When will I come out of it? What's the forecast? You have nothing to prove in the winter time. It's best to take a break and wait on the salt trucks.
You might not be able to control the lost of traction, but you can control your decision to keep on pushing. I won't hesitate a minute to tell dispatch either.
You might be the best snow driver there is, but that guy in front of you or the yahoo trying to pass you might not be. From the looks of it, he looks like one of them yahoo's. Camera's give the illusion of things being farther away too. You're awfully close to that maroon 4 wheeler, lol.

That was me Friday afternoon,I -84 West heading into Portland and the roads had been dry as a bone for miles and miles.
Then just past Hood River,OR tons of bad ice and no place to get off.
Low on hrs too but I made the Troutdale truck stops just barely after getting past a bunch of car wrecks.
I was planning on being home Friday night, was just 30 minutes from my terminal and weekend home time but ran out of hrs and had to sleep in the truck again.

Why do you say that? If your on ice, a puff of wind can push you off the road, even if your stopped. I know from experience.:mcool:

You can be the biggest, baddest, SUPER-TRUCKER on the road and schtuff happens. How does that go? ".....you might get a hundred at-aboys, but it only takes ONE WTF to ruin the record."

I have to respectfully disagree with you on this one--IMHO there is no such thing as an accident it is a crash or a wreck or whatever you decide to call it. Yes there are times when things are out of control--in which case you are not in any way at fault--therefore someone else really messed up--but it wasn't an accident.
    Just my $.02
