I have a CDL Class A license and over 8 year experience, BUT that was 12 years ago. I still have the license and I am trying to get back into the game.

Reason:(I stepped down due to a mental illness my daughter had which is nolonger requiring my attention.)

I have called many of the big players CRST, Swift, and Heartland Express. They all tell me that I need to find a company willing to take a chance on me or go back to Truck driving school. Going back to school sounds like a logical decision, BUT I have bills to pay and can't take that much time off. In my mind, I remember everything such as the mechanics of driving, the fundementals of backing the truck in a dock, and keeping up with the paperwork. These things to me are like riding a bike you just don't forget. If anyone knows anybody out there willing to take a chance please let me know. I will not disappoint I swear it.

    Thanks

Find a small mom and pop company. Test drive for them.
You will need to show where you've been the last ten years.
Big companies will not even consider it.
Think about hauling dirt or something like that for a while.
You can ease back in if you are resourceful.

Would not hauling grain for a farmer,(OTR) be an option too?

Update: I received an offer from ADAMS Petroleum and this is like a dream come true. Thank you all for your support. As for refresher courses, in my opinion it is nothing short of extortion. If you have a situation like mine just hang in there and keep on looking. eventually a door will open.

Be there in a 1- 1/2 when I get out the military. Let us know how you do at ADAMS...Good luck brother.

I do think we need to start a thread on companies that will hire drivers without having to go back to TDS
