What is the source for this proven fact?

    Thanks.

I am skeptical of claims without scientific evidence to support the claim.:biggrin_2554:

I'm skeptical of the brainwashing regarding health and diet that's been perpetrated on American people since the 50's.

"A proven fact" may have been too bold a statement. One of the times I unsuccessfully tried to quit was in 1999. I went 9 months w/o smoking before I caved in. One of the things I did to keep me motivated during that time was to surf the 'net for all things tobacco related. That was a piece of information I gleaned from that period.

Here is one link that seems to support the claim, though it's far from definitive. I'm sure you could link a site that states the opposite.

In reading my daily Parenting email, child ear infections are on the massive decline. The reasons cited were that fewer parents are smoking in the home with young children. Same thing with SIDS. Fewer parents smoking combined with the use of the Back to Sleep campaign as well as the use of fans in the baby's and child's room to circulate the air better are improving the lives of our newest generation bigtime. The American Lung Association is pushing for legislation to make it illegal to smoke in a car wherein there is a child or children present.

It has to do with character as well. Smoking is a character flaw. Shows massive weakness of the mind. It is no coincidence that most dope smokers and heroin addicts are smokers as well. Look at Charlie Sheen, do you want to end up like that? Living in the lap of luxury with goddesses and porn stars, somebody save that poor man stat!

I would think drinking in any quantity is a character flaw as well. Any habit can be considered a character flaw by your definition.:biggrin_25510:

There are ex-junkies that can't quit smoking which would suggest that nicotine is more addictive than heroin.

For every Charlie Sheen there are dozens of people like Einstein, Nicole Kidman, Picasso, etc, etc, etc. - smokers that aren't of questionable character.

I don't care for the smell of cigarette smoke and I will not put myself in a position to breathe secondhand smoke but I can't paint all smokers with a broad brush. They are people with a nicotine addiction and they have a wide range of personality traits, just like people that don't have a nicotine addiction.

:biggrin_25522: I'm trying to be as sanctimonious and uptight as I can be (as per OP instructions) which is difficult for a 'go with the flow' kind of guy that I am lol
