I was wondering how many Cement Mixers we have on board? Did they train you for the position, or was it learned the hard way? I also wanted to know how hard is it to find a job like this, and where should I look if I am interested in this type of field.

    JR80 Thanks this.

We have transit mix division in our company. They train you for 3-5 days, depending on skill level and recent experience. Most of our guys are retired OTR drivers, or retired military. Cant say how hard it is to find a job....its obviously seasonal, your best chances are between now and october, once the rain hits, hold on tight. Based on some of the guys I know, if you can count (cubic yards, and gears, although most of ours are Allison autos) and have a CDL-B with tank endorsement, use some sort of common sense (not required all the time) you'll probably get hired.

Sounds like fun :biggrin_2559: I wouldn't mind getting into that field I usually like challenges rather than just sitting behind the wheel, and just going forward good exercise for your body, and brain that's why I was looking forward to a flatbed gig but since the last application I filled out and spoke to that rude recruiter it set my hopes down low on how these employers are treating, and lying to the applicants (future employees). Maybe I am just going to look for something local for the hopes of company don't call me with some fantasy bu11sh1t story, trying to beat me in the head.

I started driving a mixer two years ago for mid illinois concrete, they put me in a truck with a driver for four hours then cut me loose in my own kenworth, at first it was the best job i ever had, but then i noticed that 11.00 and hour was wrong, see where iam at a union truck driver is consider a labor when you should be a teamester witch could mean 12 more bucks an hour

Most don't want fresh CDL's. Where I work you have to have had held an used a CDL for 2 years. There is a lot to concrete. Top heavy trucks. We gross out what a semi does, plus the fact we go off roading a lot. Very east to roll. Top heavy. Most want some kind of concrete exp as well.
