Likely to avoid any further potential liability he could cause if he is a criminal, cheat or upset enough to do personal or property damage.

So you've never been treated unfairly at any shipper/receiver in your 23 years of trucking? I highly doubt that. You think that the "tude" that some of these desk jockey's give you is OK, and they should keep their job if they demand extra money to load or unload you? (And I'm not talking about lumpers fees)

You are basing your opinion on one word used in the title of this thread. FALSLY

Now if you had some forklift operator run his forks through the side of your trailer and say "Its not my problem!" and he just walked off, you don't think that he should be reprimanded or possibly fired, because he wasn't paying attention, or just flat didn't care?

This driver took the time to make a phone call, because they wanted to extort money out of him, because he was late for his load time. Did that money go into the companies pocket? Apparently not, it went in the "under investigation" FALSLY accused employees pocket, which is why they suspended this employee. Hence the word extort used in this paragraph. They apparently have a policy in place that says that type of activity is a big NO - NO!

The guy has been with you ten flawless years. I would give him the benefit of the doubt because you can't prove anything. Like someone else said, maybe a lie detector test?

You see anything and everything nowadays. Possibly the driver lied to his dispatcher and the man time stamped his bills and now he's in trouble? There are plenty vendictive people out there.

Then on the other hand I been bribed before. I had one guy who wanted to put steaks back on my truck and meet him around the corner. I had others want money to get off loaded quicker.

If it was me, I would of kept quiet about it and set him up in the near future. To catch someone that is sneaky, you have to be sneaky yourself.

But as it stands, I guarantee you he won't do it again. I would just give him a suspension and let him come back. You terminate him, you have to prove it. Getting a long haul driver in court out of state is almost impossible if the employee sued you for wrongful termination. The judge see's he has 10 years in and you're decision is based on speculation..... $$$$$$$

Some guy gave me $20 to post this. :biggrin_2559:

No, not at all, and pays well. I just enjoy some good banter, and there's no enjoyable banter when you're dealing with repair invoices and formal reports.

Plenty of banter here, though. :biggrin_2559::biggrin_25525:

Now get those invoices entered and filed, would you? :biggrin_25523:
