that was the query of this thread....the best co's- there must be a handful of solid co's out there(probably mom and pop shop)
so that in a year, after i complete my one Year Lease with CRS.
So that gives me a year to do all the necessary research. Once i find who they are, by WOM and diligence.Click to expand...
I will appeal to your good sense one more time: please think this through before you jump in and commit.
As to my opinion of a good company that pays percentage, everyone already knows my opinion from my other threads, lol.
Yep, word of mouth is the best indicator. That's how I made my decision. I asked other owner/op's for years and kept a mental note of companies who consistently had the best rapport with their drivers. I would also pay close attention to who was sitting in dead areas and who was moving. I almost chose Mercer, but in dead freight areas, I noticed that there were far more Mercer drivers sitting waiting for loads than there were Landstar drivers. Also, I liked the fact that with Landstar, you could choose from a private load board or call agents, but with Mercer, you are assigned a coordinator, and you had to wait in a queue of other drivers to get a load. I discovered this in Lodi, CA. I was sitting in Lodi and I counted 11 empty Mercer flats and steps, and zero Landstar empty flats and steps. I asked a Mercer O/O about it, and he said that there were actually 22 empty guys waiting for loads in the Lodi area. He said that's nothing...in Fontana there were 48 empty O/O's waiting. He said that it's first come, first serve. He was number 2 out of 22, and so number 3 couldn't get loaded until number 2 was loaded (unless number 2 refused a cheap load, then number 3 could accept it). He had been there for 5 days waiting in line. Well, this finalized my decision...no Mercer for me. -

So, all these "fleeces" are what I like to call "Relationships" - In this case, don't think of my desire to be a "lease"signer, but instead a "bridge builder"
Each person in the chain, FM,Planner, Shop personnel, payroll, co prez,.... all working together....Surely you don't suggest they do it for nothing????
But , today, for you brickman, i'm going to try it your way...
i'll be the skinny, hungry ,naked trucker, pushing my truck along I-20 towards Atlanta.... and I 'll stilll be getting "fleeced" by Volvo, Michelin, FLyin j, eaton fuller, qcom, etcc......Click to expand...

SixBrix said: ↑Anybody can dock, drive, dock. The better companies as well as the insurance companies aren't looking for a good steering wheel holder, when they require experience, they are talking about all of the situations that arise over time. You cannot possibly have encountered all there is to encounter on the road in 3 months of driving. With experience comes the ability to react to emergencies in a split second. In three months, there's no way that you have already encountered black ice, blinding snow, pulling slick 6% grades, how to deal with breaking traction while under throttle, what to do if your trailer suddenly appears out your left window going down a steep slick grade, what to do if you blow a steer tire at highway speeds...
Man, I could go on and on, but with experience comes the ability to react properly in any given situation. The insurance companies aren't stupid. They are dealing with statistics, and statistics show that after 3 or so years, you have encountered enough hazards on the road to know how to react.
THAT'S what we mean by "learn on the other guy's dime". You're GOING to screw up...count on it. If it happens while you are under a L/P and you're barely scraping by, it's not the deductible that will kill you, it's the down time. Anyone can scrape together a $1000 deductible, but how many of us can afford 3 weeks down during the process of waiting for an insurance adjustor to get his act together, arrange for a shop to fix the truck, then WAIT for the shop to fix the truck?
Anyhow, I hope you take this to heart instead of continuing to argue about all the details. A lease purchase combined with 3 whole months experience spells disaster.Click to expand...

Now, i've assumed that only amateurs would drive under such conditions
You won't find me driving under those condition's _My Load WILL BE LATE
bold#2
Do driver's with 3+ yrs exp. not have to pay insurance? or not have accidents?
Bold #3

Okay, I'm done. Brickman, please help this guy!
I had to leave out of here for Bakersfield an hour ago, but I decided to stay and help out because this discussion is VERY important. Your FUTURE is on the line here my friend, but no matter what we say, you are going to debate.
I've given my 2 cent's worth. I'm out of time. Do what you have to do. But you should really take the advice of the veterans and do some extensive reading in the other threads that have to do with doing a L/P from the company that provides your freight. If, after all that, you still decide in your infinite wisdom that you are going to be the exception to the rule and make it work, then God help you.
Later. I have to go make some money pulling for a company that pays me a percentage of the gross. -
sleepingbear...if you wont run on ice/snow covered roads your really limiting yourself to the southeast for about 5 months a year

Please read carefully and slowly: DO NOT DO A LEASE/PURCHASE FROM THE COMPANY THAT PROVIDES YOUR LOADS. Get it? Don't read anything else into it. Read slowly, one word at a time. Here it is again in case you missed it: DO NOT DO A LEASE/PURCHASE FROM THE COMPANY THAT PROVIDES YOUR LOADS.

funny how you seem to be exasperated...
re-read for yourself the title of the thread... your so far off tangent.
your like the lease police.
you'll have better luck at the local autodealer.
Again, i'm not attempting L/P-- just a lease...Click to expand... -

You still gotta pay insurance, but it'll cost a lot less. In this business its all about who can save the most money. The amount of money you can gross in a year can be maxed out by HOS. But the amount of money you can NOT spend determines how much you MAKE at the end of the year.

In my opinion and SixBrix its Landstar all the way. Six is a new leesor to them and I cancelled mine and sold my truck to broncrider. Its still a lease of your equipment to them and you operate it. But the big difference is that they do not finance your rig. You have to have all that good stuff in line yourself.
