I had a "side business" covering Southern Arizona and parts of Southern California up until 2009. My business (ICU CCTV) installed cameras at a few truck stops, including Ehrenburg, AZ. The systems purchased by the Arizona truck stops were "low end" in nature. No night vision cameras, tape systems instead of DVR's, no pan tilt and zoom camera's. Lighting in the parking lots was not conducive to evening surveillance. I had tried to advise them as to proper coverage, but cost was always an issue and most went the cheap route. They were more concerned about gift shop/cash register coverage than parking lot surveillance. I doubt that they preserve any video coverage unless an immediate court order was presented.

My thoughts are that this could be a PI hired by a paranoid woman who wants to know if her trucker is cheating. I don't know how many sites I found were women said they had done this to their trucking man because they wanted to know if he was being "dirty" out on the road and had no way of knowing since they were away from home. Seems incredulous to me. Cheating or not that is a SEVERE invasion of a persons privacy.

I think we scared him off?

But your theory sounds good. Surveillance of a trucker could be a difficult job. They better be prepared to travel.

I'd say. I for one wouldn't want the job of "tracking" a trucker for those purposes. I wonder if they charge more for that? LOL That would get expensive quickly.

Actually, it isn't that hard. During the worst part of my divorce a few years ago, I had moved out. We "separated" our Verizon phone accounts and I went to get a new cell phone. A Verizon rep. examined my phone and account and found out my ex-wife had placed tracking software on it 2 years ago. Verizon was pretty good about it and investigated and found that the software is normally only placed on a phone utilized by minors under 18 and can't legally be placed on a phone of any adult without a court order or formal request by a law enforcement agency. Since the ex-wife worked for a local district attorney's office for many years, the ensuing "stink" was pretty interesting. Got apologies from everyone involved, free cell service for 6 months and got to see the ex suspended without pay for 45 days...(for which she blamed me, of course). And the funny part was, I never cheated, she did. The software was pretty interesting when I got to see it in action, tracked all locations in a 48 hour period, all calls made to any numbers, times, dates etc..As long as the phone had a charge, it still tracked, didn't matter whether it was on or off.

Wow. I would be irate. LOL Josh and I have had our problems, both of us have fouled up out of stupidity, but I don't think that either of us would go to that extreme. You either forgive and move on, or give up. But unless you have a REALLY good reason to suspect someone is cheating, then hiring a PI or installing "software" on a phone, computer is just plain crazy.

Wow Bullet !! AT&T has the same...for any phone with the caveat that if the phone is being tracked then a text is sent to the phone stating that.

Not very useful for tracking teenagers so......we got another line....... silenced the phone and hid it in the vehicle........ works-a-good.

And the Feds have had this tech for years....... any phone can be tracked to the current tower although I thought it had to be on.

Maybe they do, but why ask a truck driver and not the truckstop?

I worked at a Pilot. They had cameras, and one time I asked the General Manager if they had ever actually needed footage off of it. And he laughed and said "Those things are hardly ever actually recording, and even when we do have them on we reuse the tape." His words not mine :/ There is a different guy managing now though, so who is to say what they have them doing now. But it is true, I've noticed cameras at most truck stops, and gas stations. Even wal mart and kroger have cameras in the parking lots. The apartment complex I live in has signs posted saying there are cameras, but I haven't actually seen one. I'm not saying there aren't any, they do have these timed lights that alternate coming on around the buildings. They have been working hard at cleaning the "trash" out of the general area. Very strict on who is allowed to rent from them, but unfortunatly there is nothing they can do about the row of houses on the street adjoined. Gotta love towns that are sinking in the bad economy :p
