Crete seems to have a big push looking for new drivers. I got an email from them saying "now is the time to work for Crete." I realize it was an automated email as it hit my spam folder.

They told me to work somewhere else for 1 1/2 years and reapply as I got fired from my previous non driving job.

    That many miles out there?

OK talked with a driver who has been with Shaffer for 8 years. Miles are low yet they are hiring more drivers.

They told them their shippers will start turning more freight over to them as soon as they have enough drivers.

    Sounds silly to me.

Looking for new drivers with no Records because of CSA 2010. This stupid Regulation is going to have lots of turn over in the industry now even more than before.

They also have a lot of NEW empty trucks, with more coming. I have been there two years, and in my opinion, and I've driven for over 20 years, it's not a good job. You can survive, that's about it. It's a job. Period.
In two years I've only approached 3000 miles a week a few times in two years, and I do not take much time off. I think I average 2200-2300, which also means I did not get a raise after the first year since I did not 'meet company miles standards'. I run what they give me.

Government regulations, safety ratings and insurance companies are in much more control over who gets hired than the actual trucking companies. It's BS, but it's life in todays trucking business. There is a reason the trucking companies have been screaming that the CSA2010 was going to drive many thousands out of the business and cause a driver shortage. It's just starting and is only going to get worse.

I haven't seen any evidence of a driver shortage.

If there was we would be treated a lot better.

Where do I sit according to CSA2010?

In the last 5 years I did 2 years OTR, then 1 year local in a straight truck, then 1 year local P & D, now the last year in a straight truck again... All together 6 companies in the last 5 years. 3 years tractor trailer in the last 5. All safe miles.

I guess I'm a job hopper, but I never meant to be one. It's funny how these companies will hire you if you have no experience at all, but if you have many experiences, then you're no longer qualified? Seems backwards!

Does anyone have an opinion, if Crete will consider a driver with no tickets, no criminal record, no accidents. I've never failed to deliver freight and never abandoned a truck. I've never been let go, laid off, or fired. I've just quit (with notice) a couple of bad companies.

I've been wanting to get back to OTR, but only if it's for a good company. Otherwise it's not worth it...
