I use bungee cords on my Freightshaker Century. put the bungee over the top of the handle and hook it to the step and I'm free to to wash my my windshield, check my oil, etc. with no worries.

Until the auto shutoff quits working! And you know that the truck stops ONLY use the best of equipment.:biggrin_25526: Now you have a reportable hazmat spill & you are also paying for all that fuel on the ground + the clean up costs...Way ta go.:biggrin_2559:

In all of my many years of driving and fueling, that never happened.

UNTIL... just last year. Fortunately I was close at hand, so the spill was minimal.

When I think back on all those times I've trusted the shutoffs enough while fueling to go use the head and grab a coffee, I'm thankful to have been so lucky it had never happened in the past...

In your info it says student so I don't know how many years you have, but only once? Man you've been lucky. I've had it happen to me at least a dozen times, so I stay right but the nozzle.
And "luck" or lack of it, is what I've been stressing all through this thread. Because like you found out, "YOU NEVER KNOW" when it will happen to you.:yes2557:

That's is a good idea. I may try that at work...I generally refuel about 15-20 tractors.

Hey scatruck you were asking over on that other site why it was so dead there. The owner got tired of people bashing Schneider on his cheerleader forum and banned about 30 members. So yes it's a snooze fest over there. If a trucking forum is what you want, then this is the place right here.

For the people that just want to get their gasoline and go PLEASE do not wear a nylon widbreaker over a cotton shirt. It's the same like when you walk across the casino floor then touch your girlfriend or wife just behind the ear. Snap, crackle,a and pizzed off girl.

It's not like I wander around the truckstop. I'm generally not more than about 10 ft or so away. I just use them while I wash the windshield.

I was told by an older driver that it's best to shut off while fueling because you could stir up debris in the tank. Not sure if that makes any sense, but I figure why burn fuel for no reason? Also like to check the oil at the same time, so...

In a related, humorous note, next time you get a chance, check out new fanbelts, most have a WARNING advising that you turn engine off before replacing said belt, LOL! You just KNOW that some idiot, at one time, tried to replace while running, and then tried to sue.
