The Europeans say that American trucks are stupid.
I use both.
Nothing like a bit of variety to spice things up a bit. -
They do say that...BUT! When they come over here on vacation they come to the truckstops and want their pictures taken sitting in my truck and they Oooh and Ahhh at how nice my truck is and how much room I have in it.
This happens a couple of times a year at least...The last one a few months ago was some guy from Holland that says he drives a truck there but that they don't have anything as nice as AMERICAN trucks...And he's right, They don't!danny_379 Thanks this. -
It is a show only truck. It was built with one thing in mind and that was going to truck shows. I don't find it very practical either. Nice to look at but not so much to work with. The front bumper would not last a day for me. The rear fenders would have to be removed as they would also get demolished in a heart beat. I would never sleep in that truck as I am not ready for a coffin just yet. It is stretched too long and there would be such a gap between the back of the cab and the trailer that fuel economy would suffer big time. That and corners would be tough to contend with.
I would start by putting a real suspension back under it, cutting the frame down a few feet, adding a 12,000 lb pusher axle, removing the sleeper and getting about a 70 inch mid roof installed. The front bumper would have to be swapped out for a smaller texas style bumper. Remove the full fenders and install some nice quarter fenders and a full fender over the pusher axle. -
Trucks are made to make money and haul freight, not to look cool and be impractical.
If our rules were different europeans would have bigger cabines except we who have to use ferries to get from one country to another. Extra wheelbase is just plain stupid. -
@Rat
i have seen many of them in normal haul usage lot of them been recently at MATS
but i agree with you truck is totally impractical for normal use even some guys use them
you must all the time be careful with lifting of this bumper -
good point bw9--i forgot that--if you are parked at a rest area--and in comes a bus of middle aged eu travelers--you just might be there a while
-
seems to me the problem is that US drivers remember well old COE trucks and think that EU cabovers are like old US COE trucks, and... the other discussion like COE vs Convrntional truck....
-
We only have Freighliner Argosy and 9800 Navistar American COE here now that Pieterbuilt have pulled out of COE.
Don't know where to fit the Mack Quantum.NOT Euro or American.
These are still a bit rough compared to a DAF,Merc,Iveco,MAN,Volvo or Scania.
They are however not brutal like the American COE trucks of old.
They are also cheaper and simpler to work on then the Euro COE.
Most of my class 8 miles were done in a F series Mack COE. -
noooo nooo the old coe's are just way to cool when restored and working--the eu ones --while they may be designed better--better in pretty much every way----they cannot even come close to an old coe--they are classics---kinda like comparing a new camaro to a 68 or 70 camaro---not even close
