    Good day all,
I have been working with recruiter at Stevens. I have always gotten my questions answered same day whether thru email or telephone. They have already found me a place to park my truck ( Thermo King in Columbus). I just wondered if there is anyone in this forum that has been with them for a while? I know that there is good and bad in most companies. I have a great work ethic and not afraid of hard work. I also know that I will be out a lot and ok with that. Any info regardless if it is good or bad from anyone in this forum would be so much appreciated.

    Thanks so much!
    Newbie from Ohio

There are several of us that post under the Aviary list that have been with Stevens a few years. I am just over three years with Stevens.
You are asking a personal opinion question, so keep that in mind.
I like Stevens. They've been good to me. They do what that promise, but like any company, you will have to keep after them at times.
My miles are good (average a hair under 3,000 per week), but you don't get that out the gate. You have to prove yourself. That means when you first go solo with them, you prove you can deliver on time, no customer complaints, accept loads without whining. Basically they can depend on you.
If you are an asset to your DM, he/she will take care of you. Think of it this way: they have about 70 drivers on their board. Usually about 15-20 are what they consider 'prime' drivers. Hand them a load and they make it work. don't hear from them unless it's an issue they need help with.
The other 50+ need to have their hands held, often whine (I don't want to go to California, I don't like driving in NY. I don't, I don't, I don't...) So if you're a DM, you want to take care of that core 15-20. So guess who gets the loads? Guess who gets the good runs?
It's pretty much that way with most trucking companies. Stevens has the freight. No empty promises there.
Do they have slow days or seasons? Sure, but everyone does. Again, during the slow times, who are the DMs going to take care of?
Stevens has great equipment, good service, good facilities.
And most importantly, they don't screw with your check.
So that being said, maybe someone else will post here to add to mine.
    Good luck on your decision.

Thanks for the info Emulsified. I am really glad to hear you have been with them 3 years. I will probably be in Dallas in mid-july after I graduate school here in Ohio. Thanks again for the info and maybe run into you somewhere! Hope you continue to be happy with Stevens!

I have also been with stevens over 3 years, yea you get the miles I average a little over 3000 a week, I like my job for the most part but here is what drives me nuts. Detention pay is scarce they will put a little on there once in a while just enough to say they pay detention (for u stevens drivers yes I am talking about following the circle of service to the letter) I would bet they pay less than 5% of what u should get.(yes I'm talking about after the first 2 free hours)
What I would like to know is how many tens of thousands of dollars do they bill companies for every year that they don't pass onto the drivers, the people who actually lose that time. Another thing I resent is having to come back to dallas every 3 months just to stand in line for hours so some clowns can sign your little paper and hit some keys on a computer. If you have done something wrong I could see it, but it don't matter to them since they don't pay for your time they think its worth less than nothing. I get all wound up about this once in awhile when they do things that cost me time and money for no other reason other than because they don't care about your time. I think if they actually paid drivers for the time that they are detained or are going through the clearance process on the yard all of it would become much more efficient because if they actually pay u for that time they are gonna make it take as little as possible. That's my rant.lol I feel better already.

Because Federal law says they have to visually inspect the equipment every 90 days.

You have to remember, Stevens is a training company. They have to keep close tabs on the drivers, since most are fairly inexperienced.
It's just part of the territory. If you drove for someone else, you'd have a whole new set of complaints.
    It's the industry.

Rants are good, helps clear the mind...
Now I have also been with stevens just over 3 years.
Home time is always a problem.. have to stay on them hard, and even then at times they just don't care.
Going to the yard every 3 months does not bother me, as I am never on the yard more than a few hours to get me clear... now getting some work done on the truck may take a day or two.
Have never had a problem with my pay, always paid when I am suppose to be.
I am happy with my pay, miles.
