I'm happy to hear that he did it through the qualcomm. If you call them on the phone, there is no record and when that load goes bad and is not accepted on the delivery they will screw you with it and OTRM will never admit to talking to you. If it isn't in writing, it was never said. Qualcomm is a pain in the butt, but it sure can cover your butt when it comes down to the blame game.

It is like anywhere else you can go to drive. Pay as a lease op is better than company driver if you run miles. It is a crap shoot unless you have a dispatcher that can keep you loaded. If you don't, then change dispatchers till you find a good one.

Do you own your truck or are making payments to the bank?

I drove a W9 for about 8 months, currently in a ProStar. When I first got the truck it didn't seem to pull as hard as the kenworth, but this one only had a little over 100 thousand mile on it and I started pushing it harder and now seems to do well and gets better mileage than the W9. I have been hauling a lot of 44,000 pound loads lately and hauls the mountains pretty well now. I do like the Kenworth jakes a lot better than the ProStar though. The Prostar is a LOT more quiet inside and the reefer is even tough to hear at nite.

I would say that just about anyone here can answer questions about the company without any BS. There doesn't seem to be any sugar coating here. As far as pointers; make sure your trainer teaches you how to run as a solo driver if that is your objective. Mine didn't teach me that very well and I had a quick indoctrination when I got my first solo load. Learn the qualcomm as much as you can. It is a 1980's pile of dog crap that is slow and frustrating and has virtually no memory wo you are gonna have to figure out a system of how to write your loads down with the important information that you will be using in your macros on a daily basis. Learn how to back up. Most accidents are from backing and usually at a truck stop.

Which location are you going to?

I will be starting on the 9th (well that is when I get on the bus) so I should be there when you drop. I hope you make it home to the Mrs. Nomadtrucker. My wife is excited because I should finish my training, right before our 7th anaversary. I live in WA so I will need to get home to get my CDL transferd to WA from UT.

When are you going to be there? My load is going to Ogden also and I will be there on the 29th or possibly before.

I am in 14511, gold Prostar with a Mustang on the lower grill. (the remaining part of my 95 mustang that my son totaled out for me)

Company is safer than o/o. But you can make 2-3 cents more per mile as o/o. It's a big risk. I lease and do ok but don't often recommend it. If you can afford 3 pay checks then negative for a week. Lease. If not I would stay solo. If you want to train, You have to lease. Any questions just ask.
