Because most ports are unionized. Workers are lazy, stupid and rude. They think they are a priviliged class. They look down upon truck drivers. They will stop in the middle of loading your trailer to take their break or to go to lunch. Then they come back late. Some ports require additional security requiring you purchase day passes or they scam you for pollution passes.

What ports do plan on picking/dropping?

You can't go to LA....It's union....
Long Beach requires a Clean Truck registration....

Oakland requires you register with the STEP program.....

Now to really aggravate you.....Obama has cut a back-room deal with Calderon to close the Cali ports next year so they won't be in competition for the new deep water port in Ensenada that our good friends...The Chinese built......

Only Mexican carriers can pull from Ensenada according to everything I have read about it.....

    Ah well....There's always running Nukes.......

No. At some ports they won't let you in at all without a TWIC, others just charge a bigger "gate fee" so they can provide an "escort" whom you will never even see. I don't have a TWIC and I never plan to get one unless it's free and doesn't require me to go wait in line at some government office waiting for lazy, rude government employees to process paperwork.

I refuse to go to many port terminals for the same reasons though. It takes 6 hours for them to load a truck because they're lazy union workers. Last time I was at Gloucester/Holt Terminal in NJ I sat there and watched and there were 6 or 7 "supervisors" who do nothing but sit around at a table and complain how hard they're having to work, while there were 4 younger guys actually loading trucks. And even those younger guys were taking breaks every hour or two.

I've only hauled produce out of the ports, stuff we can't grow here like bananas. I would NEVER pick up any manufactured goods (stuff we can produce here) at a shipping terminal though. I see it as an American job lost every time a driver pulls a truckload of manufactured stuff out of the ports.

You either have to have a TWIC or be escorted. Escorts cost you, the driver and take up additonal time, sometimes hours.

Yes, I would get a TWIC.

Nukes aren't for running...they're for dropping! And bomber pilots always need extra practice...

I wouldn't haul any nukes unless I had some heavily armed soldiers following me. I don't need to tangle with terrorists or Russian operatives. They don't pay me enough.

Thank You Gentleman for the heads up on Port Union arsehole! What I use to when I was pun glass out of Hampton Iowa was I'd always keep lil Extra cash 40-60 bucks and work my people skils on the crane or forklift guy and every now and then they have me loaded outta there 2hrs or less, wonder if that tactic would work on a union port arsehole?
