The two boys tore down the hall of Patton Middle School after lunch, swatting the bottoms of girls as they ran -- what some kids later said was a common form of greeting.

But bottom-slapping is against policy in McMinnville Public Schools. So a teacher's aide sent the gawky seventh-graders to the office, where the vice principal and a police officer stationed at the school soon interrogated them.

After hours of interviews with students the day of the February incident, the officer read the boys their Miranda rights and hauled them off in handcuffs to juvenile jail, where they spent the next five days.

When is to far, to far? I think if the parents and schools would work together more and kids had a "healthy" fear of them, then this wouldn't be such a big issue. Kids will do things to test the waters and see how much they can get away with. But it's up to us as parents and teachers to show them the correct way to act in public. Wonder how often these same kids where corrected on this behavior, if they were ever told it is not accepted, not just wrote in some handbook and expected to be known.

[IMG]Look at this kid, does he look like a sex predator? This is about stupid laws, and the stupid district attorney's trying to make a legacy for themselves.

I agree with both of you! First - I wasn't saying this is right - I think they are taking it way to far. Every kid will try and see how much they can get away with - it's human nature to push the envelope. But, parents and teachers should try to set the kids straight - not the law. The world is getting to "sue" happy - if anything happens let's sue! It's getting crazy and it has to stop, just how is the question.

Insane. Let's keep the sexual predator tag for the real problems, not kids being kids. The teasing that goes on between boys and girls is normal behavior, and they learn how to deal with their crushes and the opposite sex because of it. This has been going on since the dawn of time, didn't Laura Ingalls get her braids dipped in the inkwell in Little House on the Prairie? By criminalizing all boy/girl interaction, what does that teach the kids?

This is getting out of hand, when is enough going to be enough.I bet if they were doing that to other boys there wouldn't be a problem.

This is what happens when you let the ACLU dictate whats right and wrong, and push laws to suit there warped way of thinking.

Bradley Berry, the McMinnville district attorney, said his office "aggressively" pursues sex crimes that involve children. "These cases are devastating to children," he said. "They are life-altering cases."

This guy sounds like another well known rouge democrat district attorney: Mike Nefong.

Unfortunately it does become Life - atlering, these kids are drug before the courts and ridiculed for being kids - they never get a chance to learn and grow into adulthood - they should focus on that - and the repercussion associated with trying a kid in court! What type of socially moral adult will these kids become?
