The new730 is actually 16.4 litre 900 hp industrial engine, it's true most of them will be sold to the Nordic countries and Australia but there are Alot of owner drivers here getting them, I'm due to change in about 18 months and I hope to buy one too but it's always better to wait a while to let new models iron out those teething problems, a friend of mine is getting his one in a couple of weeks, he does the same work as me and scania have given him a garuntee that it will do 11 mpg running at 44 tonnes so that's a good enough excuse for me to get one, just trying to convince my wife it's worth the extra money is another thing lol

Yeah I definatley don't think he was insulting anybody, I think he is just learning English , its also nice to hear from a guy who moved over to the states and get his perspective on it,

Is the axle limit low there too? If it were that would be a problem ccos the scania is front heavy, the cab is all-steel and the v8 is a heavy lump!

problem of US trucks in europe is that EU trailers are designed for 24V. and to swap bulbs with 12V is easy, but for EBS/ABS we have to install voltage doublers.

US engines may easily be calibrated to EU standards. And we have to change headlamps and taillamps with European. But unfortunatly we can operate not in all countries becouse of silly lenth limits. It is funny, if you tow semi - lenth limit is 16 M, so we can use 40' trailers only, but with B-double lenth limit is 22.5m.

In ex USSR lenth limit is 20 m and we can easily use standard european trailers.

Why is that ? Is it to keep Mexican competition out ?

Wow that's not much! We would almost have that empty! Is it just for Mexican trucks driving in the us or all trucks ?

    12000 lbs steer axle
    34000 lbs drives
    34000 lbs traler tandems
    Total can't be over 80000lbs.
Also here is the bridge formula used to fugure out maximum allowable weight i.e. GVW. http://www.foresthauling.org/Documents/USDOT/Federal_Bridge.pdf
If there is not enough spacing between axles maximum allowable weight will be less than 80000lbs.
