Does it mean all of YRC's regional companies will go under or will they continue to opperate? I mean is it a good idea to apply at Reddaway for a driver job? Will the company sell and current drivers keep their jobs, hows does that work?
yrc regional companies, in trouble or not?

Nobody can answer those questions unless they have a crystal ball. Nobody knows if and when they will go under, nobody knows how a bankruptcy would play out with them, nobody knows if any other companies would be interested in buying them out.....
Personally, I wouldn't THINK about applying there, but again.... thats just me. -
Desert_T Thanks this.

Not to poke the hive, skinny, but what ya gonna do when the doom and gloomers are right about YRC?
Where there is smoke there is usually fire. -
Please, having a good union job has nothing to do with the fact that YRC is and has been loosing hundreds of millions of dollars per year since before they bought Big R. They have sold off a bunch of their divisions recently to put an infusion of cash back into the company just to keep their credit rating up so they can borrow more. Don't think for one moment that one day you're gonna wake up and find out that the day before was your last run. The last time this happened? Think back to CF. Those drivers too believed it was a great job until the board of directors pulled the plug on them. All I'm saying is no matter if you belong to a union or not, if the powers to be decide to close up shop, the only thing you'll have is your union card, and no job. If that should happen there will be an influx of good drivers looking for too few union jobs because little by little these big union carriers are falling one by one, and yes, it mostly has had to do with piss poor management. Just take the blinders off and have a backup plan for when that day comes. And before you go on and tell me how great your union is, I know. I was a member of IBT local 804 in NYC for 5 years as a package car driver for UPS. Great job, great strength behind me but this was 35 years ago when I was young. I decided at the time I wanted to make my own decisions, not someone else. You see, after all these years I have done very well for myself. Without union representation.

So what ltl freight companies seem solid in your opinion?

I'm glad you did well, but trust me, I'm not jealous of a union job with a so-called "better quality of life". Unions might be good for some, but I have no use for them, and will never join one. Ever.
My FIL is still with YRC, like I explained above. I truly hope they pull out of this for HIS sake. -

Normally when carriers get bought out by competitors it is not for the equipment or for the drivers. It is for the current freight contracts and an inside track on keeping those more lucrative accounts.
A new buyer for some of these divisions may keep the best drivers provided they can adapt to the new owners.
I do think unions are becoming a thing of the past and will continue to die off as time goes on but for the time being if you have a shot at getting your foot in the door of a union outfit then I say go for it. They do offer better pay, hometime, and benefits than most of the non union outfits today.
The equipment will usually be bare bones and fairly old but you will get used to it.Desert_T Thanks this.
