I have a quick question about driver turn over rates. I am in school right now and so a lot of recruiters tell us about their turn over rates. Most companies seem to have rates between 70% and 90%. We had a Dot Foods recruiter come to talk to us, and he told us that Dot Foods has a 8.6% turn over rate.

I have done a lot of research on Dot Foods and it seems like a really great company to work for. I will be applying for them in Syracuse, NY. I was just wondering if maybe the recruiter misspoke, or if his 8.6% turnover rate is for real.

    Any thoughts???

To me its just numbers,it doesn't mean its a bad company,it just mean people quit cuz of personal reasons etc.As for Dot,I have never heard anything bad about them,so you just gotta take it by a gran of salt.

I don't know anything about Dot Foods and little about turnover rates except they are high.

Being skeptical, I have two thoughts. One, I would not believe anything a recruiter tells me unless I can verify it. Two, if they had a turnover rate that low, they wouldn't need a recruiter. A company with 1000 drivers and an 8.6% turnover rate would be hiring 86 drivers a year.

I could be completely wrong, just my thoughts. Maybe someone with personal experience with them will chime in.

I did check out this thread:

Do a search for "Dot Foods" on this forum. There are lots of threads. This thread was pretty positive. Looks like some unloading for the driver.

From what I've heard from a long time driver there. They really take care of their drivers. He's been there a long time and said he's not going anywhere. He says the turnover is less than 10%

After reading that one thread I pasted above, I'm second guessing my earlier post on turnover rate. It seemed too good to be true but...........

At least I admitted to being skeptical upfront. :biggrin_2552:

Numbers can be manipulated, it's done all the time in big business. But, usually, food service is hourly and decent pay with benefits and home daily. Therefore, not as big a turnover. Plus you have a long lunch, since restaurants don't receive between 11-2pm. AND, you get a good workout daily lumping gallon cans (cases).

Great compaies with a turnover rate that low have no need to recruit from a school. However, you never know but you can ask how many left because they retired from the company. The percentage can be confusing because it deals directly with how many drivers they have.

I would go to DOT before any of the other bottom feeders.
